2020-2021 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

*puts on his detective hat*

Hyman in a white jersey so he's back on the 3rd line, Galchenyuk in a blue jersey so he's somewhere in the top-6. Simmonds also in a white jersey so he's somewhere in the bottom-6. My guess:

Thornton-Matthews-Marner
Galchenyuk-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Hyman
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds

Liljegren only turns 22 this April don't know why people are so down on him, unless you're a bonafide stud, defenceman usually take some time to become NHL regulars.
Ya look at Holl (although stud the last few games is an overstatement), and Liljegren comes with a much higher pedigree.

I'm personally not down on him at all, I'm just saying the Leafs aren't sitting Bogosian for him on a consistent basis. Not happening.

It also somewhat makes me question his future as a Leaf, again despite me liking him. Next season if they don't re-sign Bogosian I think they will see value in bringing in another defenceman like him to take his spot/role. So once again the question will be: where does Liljegren fit in?

I remember Gardiner was bounced up and down for a bit and didn't get a regular spot until about 22.  From everything i've read Lily is close and he's playing well in the AHL so I expect to see him get games here in short order.

I like what the Leafs have done with their offensive defense prospects so far: i.e. hold them in the minors/juniors annoyingly long. They were all mid-first/second bets to begin with, so there is no impetus to carve out lineup space and let them get roasted for no reason. Playing at or just above their level let them continue to work on both sides of their game and any latent flaws.

Dermott was not speedster in juniors, but by the time he graduated the Marlies, he became one of the most agile skaters on the Leafs defense corps. He is still a bit overexuberant when he should err on safety, but NHL minutes and experience will even that out.

Liljegren was largely a one-dimensional offensive threat, but nearly 4 years with the Marlies has made him defensively dependable (at the AHL level) and now the offense is layering back on without issue.

Contrast with Rielly, who has been with the Leafs since he was 18; very productive at times as a rover, but still a tire fire in his own zone and giving up lots of time and space. The development window for his defensive instincts has closed.

I can see someone claiming Vesey cause he's so cheap.

I can see no-one claiming him cause he's garbage and Dubas having to do some juggling with the cap situation. Who's fault is that Kyle?

I'm so tired of that idiot. Can you please stop quoting him?

Far different approach with prospects now under the new regime.  I like how Dubas has focused on development of assets at all levels even down with the ECHL cause you never know when you may find some talent that was overlooked.

What's Pierre LeBrun ever done to you?

The 2nd line is either going to eat teams alive or get stuck in their zone forever on days Nylander isn't feeling it defensively.

Terry's apparently the only person watching the other rink. Hopefully this means Campbell is good for one of the games against Calgary.

Man that news lifts my spirits.

*knocks on wood* we could be seeing our healthy line-up for the first time since week 1 pretty much.

Except for Matthews.
As LK put it the other day, this kind of injury could take months to heal properly. I would take it the Leafs staff understands the injury, having seen it many times before and if he is not in danger of worse injury and it won't heal all that quickly, then carry on and keep calm.

Agreed on all that.  I'm just saying he's hampered so we may get back to our full lineup but it won't be fully healthy.

That would be me I'm assuming? Just my 2 cents.
