2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Dozen games left. Probably time to start trying to key in on your defence pairings. I was a little surprised to see Gustafsson get the nod last night over Schenn, especially since a) Schenn has played less games with the team, b) Guf seems like the most unlikely of the potential options to play game 1 of the playoffs, and c) the Islanders are kinda the team you'd expect the Leafs would have specifically wanted Schenn to play against.

Playing Gus over Schenn allowed them to play all the D pretty close to the same minutes??? Don't see Schenn getting near 20 mins a game so they got to keep the pairs together for the most part. I think Keefe starts locking things down really soon too. Gotta get Willy and JT going.

This feels game 1-ey.

ROR takes Acciari's spot, who then bumps Simmonds out. Or ROR goes on the 2nd line, bumps Bunting to the 3rd line, Lafferty takes 3C, Acciari replaces Simmonds.

Well that sucks for him. But fortunately, he injured it during NHL time so he can't be sent down and will make more money while healing. I think. Not sure if his status as emergency recall affects that.

No love for the Leafs in the NHLPA player poll.

If they'd asked me, I might have Marner in the mix for best passer.

Tavares - Nylander has given up too much on the defensive side of things for my taste and Marner?s defensive magic helps balance him out.  And I?ve noticed some Lafferty defensive errors (and I?m not normally able to really pick those out)

I would enjoy seeing these lines to see what happens with them.

Bunting - Matthews - Jarnkrok
Lafferty? - Tavares - Marner
Kerfoot - O?Reilly - Nylander
ZAR - Acciari - Kampf

If some team claims him now, then it is for sure for poops and gigs

These are all-situations data points, where applicable.

On paper the Leafs look like this is a good time to play Tampa.  In reality I fully expect playoff shenanigans to help level things out when Tampa gets away with murder.

On a side note, who the heck designed the Leafs schedule down the stretch.  5 sets of back to backs in March/April.  Play 4 games in 6 nights 3 times in March/April.  Play 8 games in the final 13 days of the schedule include finishing the final four games in 6 nights with the final three games on the road.

I think that now allows them to offer Knies a contract to the max cap hit allowed (or it gets them darn close) - depending some on who is on the roster. Back when, they needed the extra $78,000 to get Knies to the max.
