Binnington won in 2019 as a rookie with 33 NHL games played.

Yeah, but then he went insane.

I will trade insanity later for a Cup anytime...

Yup.  I was born in 1969, can't even claim to have seen a Cup win as a kid, lived through decades of disappointment.  I just want to see the Leafs win a damn Cup once before I'm too old.

I here the summer of 69 was pretty awesome.  There was this guy who bought a 6 string and played it till his fingers bled.  He and his friends from school, they had a band and they tried real hard.

I think Bryan Adams lied in that song, he was only 10 years old I doubt he was in a band and working at a drive in.  Liar!

Well now I have an afternoon of questioning reality in front of me.

Tampa loses to New York. Leafs back up to 6 points up.  They have 5 games left and Tampa has 4.

Magic number down to 3

You heard from me first, and no, I don't believe in jinxes.

We'll be seeing the B's in R2.  The monkey's getting its ass kicked to the curb.

Let's hope man.  It's been so long since I've seen the Leafs in round 2 I forget what it feels like to have your team win a playoff round.  Just win.

I know everyone wants a first round victory here, myself included.  But let?s give some credit where it?s due?the Leafs and Bruins are tied for the most consecutive playoff appearances in the NHL right now with 7 each.

Regardless of the outcome that?s a pretty decent accomplishment.

The Leaf teams over the past 7 seasons have been good enough to win more than a few rounds, but fate just hasn?t been kind to them? yet!

I think pittsburg has 16 straight, no? and Preds+Caps at least 7... those streaks probably get broken, tho

I see this Leaf team build much similar to Washington when they were the Champs.

They struggled year after year to beat Pittsburgh, but when they finally did, they went all the way. Once they move on to their next round, the team will be fuelled.

Leafs patch to the cup is:

Beat the curse in round 1 (please not another game 7)
Beat the guys that were down 4-1 and won in 2013
Beat the last team they faced at the East finals and their former former starter
roll over who ever came from the west.

Pittsburgh's at 16 (they haven't missed the playoffs since Crosby's 2nd season in the NHL), Washington and Nashville both at 8 currently. Washington's streak is definitely ending but Pittsburgh and Nashville both still have chances albeit somewhat slim ones.

Also the Leafs missed the playoffs in 2020 by losing in the qualifying round. The league may not officially recognize it like that, but I do.

I think he's saying that as of next week, the Bruins and Leafs will be tied at the top with 7. Currently it looks like this

1    Pittsburgh Penguins    16    2007
2    Nashville Predators    8    2015
        Washington Capitals    8    2015
4    Toronto Maple Leafs    6    2017
        Boston Bruins            6    2017
6    Colorado Avalanche    5    2018
        Tampa Bay Lightning    5    2018

Schenn is a bad defenseman.

Liljegren generates better results.

Change my mind.

I don't think Schenn is great but I'm wondering if you're referencing the chip off the glass.

Funny that glass play I immediately thought of his quote in the press when he said he's been telling guys that's a safe play sometimes and they should try it. Not like that Schenn, not like that.

I?m really not referencing that play. The first play that stuck out to me was in the first period where he had the puck and had plenty of time. Couldn?t figure out what to do as a Bruin approached. Then gave the puck up without making any play. From that point forward the Bruins had a minute in the zone or something like that

Yeah that annoyed me. He got the puck and had time to make a play but instead turned back into his zone and then lost the puck

The frustrating thing on plays like that is the optics.  If Boston scores on that play there is criticism for the failed zone exit from the media.  But because Samsonov makes some saves or the Leafs recover defensively it gets ignored.

Liljegren had a bad couple of games.  So some of this is absolutely on him but making the evaluation off a couple of games and ignoring the 60 other games seems shortsighted.

Schenn is getting a lot of flak but we should recognize that Coyle made a good play to keep it in and even then it was matter of a couple of inches.

That said, Luke did not have a particularly good game.

It?s not just this one game though. The advance stats say that he?s terrible and especially terrible at defense. The eye test kind of just confirms it. He?s slow, and he can?t make up that deficit by being strong.

Dubas is a proponent of advanced stats and he picked him up, so I don't think he's as bad as you claim.
