2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

https://theathletic.com/5075203/2023/11/20/william-nylander-toronto-maple-leafs-sweden/

?Maybe now it just looks like he?s trusting it a little more because he?s on the half-wall of the power play,? Mitch Marner said a few minutes after Nylander slammed home the overtime winner against Minnesota, his 12th goal already this year. ?I think he?s done a great job in that spot of just getting pucks through and finding holes.?

Marner might be right.

The biggest spike in shooting for Nylander has indeed come on the power play, where he?s shooting it more than everyone in Toronto and just about everyone else in the league ? and more than he ever did before.

Don't know why it took this long to get Nylander the half-wall on the PP, instead of Marner. Better late than never, but we've* been asking for it for 3+ years and several playoff runs have come up short because the coaching staff weren't willing to make this switch then.

* I think I've been asking for Willy on the half-wall and Marner at the goal line/behind the net since 2020 lol

Papered down on the off days so their waiver clock only runs on games played.
Lagesson stays up of course.

This was a good piece, and a sneaky advocate for more walkable cities.

I?ve had the pleasure of a couple of trips to Stockholm, and also Helsinki and Copenhagen and they?re all great for cycling and walking allied with brilliant public transport. I think it was Helsinki as well where on the day of a Jokerit game if you had a game ticket you got free use of public transport all day.

Sure hope Klingberg goes to LTIR...but how long before we hate McCabe again?

I haven't hated a McCabe for 15 years now.

I'm just saying he was not at all good those first 10 games or so.  And not great in the playoffs.

Just before we pencil him into the top-4, right?

McCabe, unsurprisingly, started to look better almost immediately after not having to carry around a half-dead John Klingberg. The stats reflect that too. And I don't think it's a complete coincidence that the Leafs had by far the worst stretch of their season with him out of the line-up. 1-3-2 while he was injured, 8-2 with him healthy (throwing out the one game the Leafs won where he played 10 seconds).

Not saying that he's even an upper echelon 2nd pairing guy, but especially at a $2mil AAV I don't think he's someone on the team really deserving of much criticism this season.

This is pretty standard for ticketholders for the main pro leagues in AUS.

So how do we fit Timmons back on the team???

Option 1: Send down Benoit + McMann
Option 2: Send down Benoit + Reaves
Option 3: LTIR Klingberg
Option 4: Trades??

Timmins practicing on the bottom pair and McMann still on the 4th line. So it looks like Option 1 is at least off the table.

I think Klinger is going to the MASH unit on Robidas Island for sure.  All of a sudden our defence is looking a bit better.

Kieffer Bellows a 1st round pick in 16 is rounding into form with the Marlies. Scoring a lot of goals.

I suspect he?s likely an AHL star, NHL healthy scratch type.

Marlies wing depth took a hit with Robertson and McMann up (potentially for good). So even if he's just a AHL guy, which is probably the case but who knows, it's certainly not bad to have in the organization.

Maybe a late bloomer too. Who knows? He's def on a tear right now. Might earn himself an AHL deal at least.

Oh, for sure. Just need to keep expectations realistic.
