2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Moore: traded in a solid deal that sorted out a lot of present problems for someone they really liked and developed from a dev camp invite. No room on scoring line with the Leafs.

Holl: ECHL reclamation project turned hull time NHler. Carved out a solid PK niche and the funniest hand pass I?ve ever seen in a game.

Marchment: ECHL reclamation project who couldn?t skate before the Leafs fixed him. Played a key role for Keefe?s Calder Cup champions? best 4th line. No room on a scoring line with the Leafs.

Development isn?t really the issue under  Keefe, but deployment under pre-ordained roles is the real cause for concern. Every coach is like that though in a results-based environment.

The funniest thing would be Brad elucidating at length about respecting the league?s decision and their fair and just judiciary process, while clips of worse headshots and crosschecks captioned by their paltry supplementary discipline results plays in the background behind him.

I'm not sure why Treliving would go near that.
I would leave well enough alone.
It is probably a no win.
Some are probably not going to like something he says.
Maybe the players or some of them. Maybe the refs/league. Maybe the fans or some of them. Maybe all of them.
And the whole thing gets another ugly round in the media debating what he's said, etc.
To me, it is done. Leave it alone.

Trevor Moore, Mason Marchment, Justin Holl, Kasperi Kapanen, Zach Hyman, Timothy Liljegren all developed under Keefe with the Marlies. Liljegren and Kapanen were the only 1st rdrs.

Keefe also coached these players on the Marlies
Connor Brown
Travis Dermott
Carl Grundstrom
Pierre Engvall
Rasmus Sandin
Andreas Johnsson
Calle Rosen

and he had Nylander for a year ..

Moore and Marchment, yeah...the Leafs (i.e. Keefe) should probably have gotten more out of them. I wonder if we'll be saying that about someone like McMann or Holmberg in a few years.

Moore was on the IR for most of the time he was a Leaf with Keefe behind the bench. Not sure how much more Keefe could have gotten out of him.

And, as others have pointed out, Marchment was also barely on the Leafs? roster before he got dealt.

Both performed well enough for Keefe in the AHL that they earned call ups. He deserves some credit for that. What they?ve become since is at least partially built on that foundation.

To me, it wouldn't be a big deal if they just made everyone wear one now. Do they look awesome? Who knows, but if everyone had to wear one it wouldn't matter.

When I played hockey even as late as my early teens we had to wear neck guards...not for blades so much, more for sticks and pucks.

They were hot and itchy so I'd guess that's why players are resisting them...branding marketing opportunity NHL!

Pretty sure they have moved away from horse hair and burlap.

I imagine that stuff's come a long way since the 70s though.
