2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Treliving has typically not made big deals at the deadline. His typical deals are for middle/bottom 6 and depth types. I'm not so concerned he's going to go for a big swing here. In the off-season, though, that's where the concern comes into play.

I'd actually be more concerned if Dubas was still running the team, because he did try for a few of those, and that's why the team has barely any draft picks and a pretty shallow prospect pool.

If given full autonomy Kyle would've already blown our first on Erik Karlsson and would be swinging hard right now for his job.

He would?ve moved Marner in the offseason, as if he was herman

Certainly feels like it, and I have to imagine Tre sees that, too. Doesn't mean he won't try something, I just don't see it being a big swing. I suspect he'll try to do some larger reshaping in the summer, but, at this deadline? Maybe try to patch some holes, but that's about it. Quite frankly, he wasn't left with the assets to do much more than that without hamstringing himself for any longer-term plans he might have.

I get the lack of trust in him, but I also don't think he's going to throw everything at Year 1 when he has some job security. If he was willing to, Zadorov and Tanev would probably be Leafs already.

Robertson didn't play for the Marlies again
Wonder if they're making sure he doesn't get hurt for a potential trade ...

With the flu running through the Leafs and game time decisions on some they couldn't risk him playing today.
Robertson was sent down on the 2nd, the Marlies were playing in Syracuse then. Today was the 1st game since then. Marlies play Friday night so we'll see what happens. With Timmins ready to come back it'll be interesting to see what happens.

They?re definitely making sure he doesn?t get hurt. That has been more or less confirmed. The why obviously remains to be seen.

Can I interest anyone in San Jose  6'3" right-Shot defenseman Jan Rutta? He won two Stanley Cups with Tampa Bay in 2020, 2021.

Most players that size are poor skaters, but Webber?s skating is actually quite good. He possesses good mechanics and a clean, quick stride that allows him to cover large distances quickly. He?s a great defensive defender because of his skating and reach, too. Pretty much any area in the defensive zone is a part of Webber?s coverage because if he can?t reach it with his stick, he?s able to get there in a stride or two, rendering a play null. Webber can anticipate where a play is going and react accordingly, shutting down a lot of offense in the process.

Shea Webber clone right?

Struggling to find a Carolina Hurricanes prospect rankings from the Athletic that even mentions the guy, which probably isn't a great sign. Could be a legitimate late bloomer, diamond in the rough though I guess.

Yeah. Seems like a reasonable gamble for a 6th round pick. If he gets into NHL games as a Leaf in the next few years, it?s a win.
