After Ehlers and Boeser, there’s not much left. Either going to make some trades or Leafs are gonna have some good cap space for the deadline.Marchand here would have gone down as either the best or worst contract the Leafs maybe ever signed. Given how things have gone recently I would have taken that risk. Just don't know what Plan B is now.
Do we like either of these guys? After Ehlers and Boeser, there’s not much left. Either going to make some trades or Leafs are gonna have some good cap space for the deadline.
Not enough to sign them long term.Do we like either of these guys?
I’m hoping the leafs find a way to get Robertson out of Dallas. Not enough to sign them long term.

Why is Marchand contract any less of a cap circumvention then Kovalchuk’s that was voided?

I didn’t think that mattered. The issue is artificially lowering the cap hit on the ‘non playing years’ - we don’t know yet what the structure is. Puckpedia has it at 5.25 all the way through, so if that’s the case then yes, I agree with you. It's a 35+ contract so if Marchand retires early the Panthers will be stuck with the cap hit. Either they don't care or it will be LTIR.

But I don’t think LTIR will work anymore for cap burying.
Absurd. Just nuts.Christian Dvorak get $5.4 X 1yr with Philly.
Wow.
Until/unless McDavid re-signs in Edmonton, I think Treliving and the Leafs have to be working under this notion.Edmonton has done nothing to suggest they are going to be better next year. DO NOT SIGN BAD CONTRACTS THAT IMPAIR THE POSSIBILITY OF MCDAVID IN 2026.
It helps that there’s no longer much out there worth committing big money to.Until/unless McDavid re-signs in Edmonton, I think Treliving and the Leafs have to be working under this notion.
