The Leafs could conceivably play two modes in the same game:
fun possession E-W skill puck with active D drives and slot funnel attacks, and then flip to dump and chase and low-to-high blast from the point for tips and junk.

A bit deeper into their careers but cap has gone up so… fair?

On one hand I like what they've done in that they don't want Matthews to be playing hard defensive matchups but looking at teams like Florida and Colorado it's hard not to think only the first two lines will be scoring and even the second line with Tavares will be a question mark. Did we need a $7M Bob if we put that into a $4M goaltender and prioritized trading for a 2C?
