Blues @ Leafs - Feb. 9th, 7:30pm - SNO, TSN 1050

Can they not do better than Romanuk and Millen?  I mean this is an outfit that claims to be world-leading enterprise-class.

Romanuk seems overly obsessed with telling us how long we've gone without a whistle these days.

Anyone remember the game, think it was in the 90's when the Leafs were up 5-0 in the 3rd and the Blues beat us 6-5 by the whistle (brutal). Last game I saw at the Gardens in 81 was a shellacking of the Leafs by the Blues.
They always seem to have the upper hand on us.
Why?

I had forgotten.  Thanks for the reminder.

Indeed.  I'm not sure why he thinks that's significant.

What's up with the Leafs being unable to keep a hold of their sticks. Been 4 or 5 occasions that they've had to go back to the bench to retrieve another one.

Did the Leafs rehire Carlyle but he is wearing a Babcock mask? Why do they suck so bad now? Basically the entire game is spent in their own end.

OK, Andersen just made up for any deficiencies on the first goal.

Pfft. It barely looked like he was even trying on that save.

He looked like he was swatting an annoying bug or something.

Leafs played great for the first 3 minutes.  Then, for whatever reason, they decided to stop it.

I'd say it's because they're young/still developing a 2 way game, the D is probably one of the worst in the league, they're playing a good team, and they've played a lot of games in a short time.

Yeah at the start of the season even when they were losing games they were always controlling play for large parts and not running around in their own zone. I'd say since Rielly got hurt something changed and they have looked really bad.

We've been watching different games, I think. The leafs have been blowing leads and being dominated for long stretches since the beginning of the season, especially by playoff position teams; great goaltending and timely offense has them where they are in the standings.

This sounds like the ramblings of someone trying to tell themselves that they didn't really underestimate this group.

Up until recently they had led for the most amount of time of any team in the NHL, that's more than just opportune offense.

They also had the highest ranked special teams too when you look at PP and PK combined amongst all teams. (This was the metric Scotty Bowman often looked to to determine the contenders in the league.)

Yes they've had problems with leads, part of that is that they are young and learning to continue to play as a five man unit when under the hammer and the other part is a product of them having had the lead for the sheer volume of time that they have.
