It's not about Gardiner being untouchable. There are scenarios where I'd trade him without thinking twice. There just isn't a defensive defenceman in the league that comes to mind where that would be true - at least, not the kind that aren't also clear top pairing guys that aren't available for Gardiner +.

Surprise, the second line gets a goal when the first one isn't out on the PP for the entire two minutes doing nothing.

The Bozak line should be the second PP unit for a while. They need a wake-up call. Offensively inept and defensively stupid and lazy.

Said that for 2 years now. Carlyle's stubborn. Keeps starting the same 5. More to the game than scoring.

McClement on ice, line gets dominated. This is a recording. Cut down their icetime.

Problem is you're still trying to limit Bolland's ice-time. So we essentially have a top-6 and then two 4th line centres.

...which is essentially what we had while we were still winning games. I don't mind if those guys together total 3rd line ice-time. But they shouldn't EACH be playing around 15 minutes, drastically cutting down the top two lines' icetime the way they are. It's not working.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a defenceman or two in mind that you'd swap Gardiner for?

Sure, and I'll let you know who they are just as soon as all those who are happy with our top 4 tell me how they propose to fix the defense (other than simply firing RC).

Other than simply firing Randy? I guess step 2 would be hiring somebody to replace him.

It's kinda funny that the Leafs welcome their star goalie back from a groin injury by giving up 18 shots in the first 15 minutes.

I'd do Gardiner for Hamonic. That would be an example of moving Gardiner for a defensive D-man. Or Karl Alzner.

The Isles/Caps wouldn't do that though, so it's a moot point.

It was really important for Randy to give McClement Kadri's shift so he could lose the faceoff and they could get hemmed in their own end.

Absolutely idiotic.

Seriously you guys, you ARE watching this, right?  Gardiner with TWO crap clearing attempts, and when he finally does get it out on the 3rd try it doesn't get deep ... and then tie game.

I do like Gardiner, but honest to God, claiming he's not bad defensively is just ridiculous.

I think our defence could definitely be improved but they aren't the total problem. Always said its a team thing. The forwards have to be better getting the puck out as well.

Terrible defensive play. I blame Bernier.

Can you stop with this? Reimer played terribly, the Leafs played bad. That's how it went.

The Leafs are still playing bad. Bernier is playing great.
