For some reason Babs didn't/doesn't trust Moore..I thought Moore was fine as a 4th line centre but what do I know?
I believe it's his tendency to take bad penalties.
Moore has 8 minors in the 50 games he's played. I do remember a few bad penalties but 8 minors in 50 games?? Doesn't sound too bad to me.

Incredibly, Matt Martin and Roman Polak lead the team in penalty minutes despite only playing in 50 and 54 games respectively.  That's a shocker.

You're right though, Moore didn't seem like a penalty taking machine.  I do remember he took 2 in one game once, which maybe soured Babcock on him.

So what does that really tell you about this team. 2 players who are in and out of the lineup that lead the team in PM's. I love this team and the direction it is headed but it distinctively lacks any toughness and that's great in the regular season but not now. All it takes is one or two guys in the lineup that keeps the other team on their toes. We have nobody other than Martin who resembles that and he doesn't strike much fear in the opposition but it's better than nothing.

Babcock looks at advanced stats but still plays Polak over Carrick?

I wouldn't say turnovers are an advanced stat, per se. Carrick and Polak are actually our top two D in not giving it away as much as the others. Partly this is because of how the stat is counted, as a flip out off the glass isn't counted as a giveaway.

Babcock likes Polak in there for PK, which he doesn't believe Carrick is strong/fast enough for. I don't think Babcock is wrong there.

What's debatable to me is how much better the rest of the game looks for the Leafs when Carrick is in vs Polak. PK is high leverage, so it's understandable you'd want some level of specialty there, but if the performance we're getting on PK is currently garbage anyway, I would prefer to just bolster the rest of the game and maybe try to win it, instead of trying to not lose it.

Oh yeah, we need more guys to take penalties like Polak and Martin.  That helps to win games.

To be fair, I think Martin's PIM variety are either of the roughing or the fighting majors.  From what I can see online, he took 10 minor penalties this year - and it's possible with some of them he took the other guy with him.  He doesn't *really* take a a whole lot of tripping or hooking penalties.

Polak on the other hand absolutely does.

To be fair, Polak plays a more difficult position and plays a lot more minutes.
Hainsey absolutely needs to bring it tonight. If he has a game like the first 2 we're in big big trouble. I'm hoping to see more of Dermott

It'll be interesting to keep an eye on the match ups tonight, as the Leafs have last change.

I'm wondering if he'll heavy up in OZ face-offs...like the 3 kids kind of heavy up.

There is zero room for error this game, as it might as well be game 7.

The Bruins are missing their Dermott tonight. There is a huge opportunity to capitalize on that third pairing.

You can play hard, tough without taking dumb penalties.
