Burke Fired

So far at the presser, there is no reason for the dismissal other than a decision to go in a different direction followed by replacing Burke with his assistant and retaining the entire front office team and then Nonis says his approach will essentially be the same but with more patience.

These guys are brain dead, one is counting the house while Nonis answers and for his part, Nonis looks very uncomfortable and has the classic "deer in the headlights' gaze.

That was very lame presser
Our new GM will talk less publicly, will conduct more meetings within the organization and will be more paitient. In a short term does not expect much, priority is to calm down everyone. Carlyle stays
I am speachless

I don't think it will affect them that much, not like changing of a coach.

I agree, Nonis is basically a Burke mold, with a different approach. The overall game plan won't change I don't think.

Nonis won't have arguments with reporters, he'll be "calmer" in interviews than Burke was.

Well that answered nothing.

not really a surprise though is it?  ..they flat out denied that luongo had anything to do with it though..so for whatever that's worth ...

as an aside..if one more reporter asked if it had something to do with burke's inability to get along with the media ..i was going to scream ...do they honestly think that anyone outside of being a reporter gives a damn about how the GM gets along with the press?  ...how many different factors would be important in making a decision like that before getting to something like that...what were they expecting?  "Yes...we didn't want our GM making your lives difficult...that is the number 1 quality we need going forward" ..

I prefer the emotional reactive approach. If somebody says something stupid, they should be called on it in short order, even if it's wrong.  ;D

Bottom line: Nonis is probably just as capable as Burke as GM, maybe better.  He won't generate all the sideshow crap that is fun for us to yak about but which ultimately doesn't do the team any good.  The timing is unutterably stupid but the move per se is a good one.

"We all work for Bell and Rogers. We OWN YOU ALL!!! AH-HAHAHAHA!!"

Everyone in the room laughs nervously.

I think his comment was a subtle way to tell the masses to back off.

I hate to think this but due to the in-breeding I doubt the Bell/Rogers
employees on TV, radio etc will ever ask a hard-hitting question again. It may fall to Cox or Simmons to flay the MLSE incompetence.

Did I just type that?

Yeah, fans of other teams will laugh at the Leafs, "same old sideshow" but bottom line is Nonis is a good GM, and he won't have the sideshow like Burke did.  Not as if we replaced Burke with JFJ.

Well, I'm glad Mike Johnson said it so I don't have to.

Although I will. Burke's tenure has Phil Kessel's name written on its tombstone.

Yep.  Although I wouldn't necessarily expect it, Kessel could be trade bait at some point now.
