Canadiens @ Leafs - Apr. 7th, 7:30pm - SN, Fan 590

The Habs just announced that Gallagher will be out for 6 weeks. That means he's done for the regular season, but going on LTIR will open up some cap space for them. Will be interesting to see what they do with it.

Maybe Freddie needs a little tweaky tweaky and a little stay on the IR until game 1 of the playoffs then.

Two can play this game.

If the Leafs had a move (or moves) where they needed that cap space I'm sure they would consider it.

At this point, they might as well move him on to LTIR regardless. He's almost certainly going to hit the 24 days threshold. Might as well have the appearance of flexibility.

Don't think there would be any benefit to that. Doing it would also mean that Hutchinson's "Roster Emergency Exception" call-ups (which cost $0 against the cap) would need to start becoming "Emergency Loan" call-ups (which would cost against the cap). Same situation basically that I described awhile back when Campbell went on LTIR.

Fair enough. Guess it's more something to keep in their back pocket if they need extra space to make trades work before they ship salary out. Andersen would be eligible to return the day after the deadline, so Hutch counting against the cap temporarily wouldn't be a significant burden.

Having Hutch's cap hit on the books would eat away a little bit of the cap space we would be accruing by the deadline. Like you said not a significant amount but it's still something, so may as well keep that at $0 if the league has a mechanism to do so.

And there's no way Freddie will go on LTIR until the playoffs if he can play. He's playing for a contract next year so being out doesn't help him. I hope he can come back soon so he can get ready for the playoffs. Keefe was asked earlier if he was worried Freddie's season was over. He said not worried at all or something to that effect. Like it or not we need a healthy Freddie and Jack going forward. I think if the Leafs are worried about either, Dubas makes a deal by Monday. There's no way they're going into this with the possibility of Hutch playing in the playoffs. They may try and get some depth anyway if they think too hard on that one.

Ya, I know what that's like. I've had a couple of potential "close contact" situations. It's frustrating when you're 99% sure you haven't been infected, but you have to wait for someone else's test results.
