Don't mean to harp on Marincin but the guy was scratched most of the year, he only played 25 games yet he was getting so much ice in the playoffs.  Even more ice then Carrick who played 67 games.  It didn't make sense to me.

It makes some sense. Marincin is better defensively than Carrick and they didn't have another option on the right side with Polak gone.

Not every goal has to be top shelf.  I think your underestimating the amount of skill it takes to put the puck in the net in todays game.  Yea Marancin was out of his league on that OT winner but MJ made a nice power move to the front of the net then nice deflection to win it.

I was referring more to the tying goal tonight. And the goal to make it 5-3 in game 4 and the winner in game 1. He also didn't look great on the winner Friday night.

And I didn't say anything about Marincin.

Well, I guess all the people who predicted Caps in 6 were technically right.  But, psychologically, this felt like a 7-game series from the get-go.

The people who called Caps in 6 or even 5 mainly did so with a dismissive sort of "The Leafs might steal one or two" sort of way as opposed to being in it every game.

Agree 100%, but then, I think even the die hard fans didn't expect them to be wrong.

But surprisingly I don't hold grudges here. Wish the Leafs would have beat the Caps but the Caps played well and played clean for the most part and are just really good. I'm still pulling for them to win it all now that the Leafs and Habs are gone.

The only Leaf eliminating team I've ever been able to bring myself to cheer for is Carolina. Their fans were just so darned nice. :)

For me it's less about fans than it is the players. I'd like to see Ovechkin get some hardware and Backstrom, Holtby, Oshie and others all are guys I think deserve some success.

Carrick was having problems as well and not just tonight. The D was questionable all year and like I said before management will address that this summer. As much as I like skilled forwards they need to find some guys with some skill and grit. If you don't have that in the playoffs you're not going far. The Bozak line was a disappointment all series. Marner and JVR were non existent. The playoffs are a whole different beast though. Management and Babcock will make them even better as much as it's a disappointment because we were there and what an upset it would've been I can't wait till October.

Marincin.... grrr. Great year, I think we all know A tweak a D will vastly improve this team. Caps got nothing on us, great series.

Not sure he's better defensively then Carrick.  And he's a right shot like Polak.  It's odd they thought more highly of Carrick all year then all of a sudden Marincin is getting more ice? Weird to me. Carrick 67 games played and Marincin 25 games.

I think it's just your perception, even the tying goal was a pretty good goal.  Watch it again, Andersen moved slightly to his left on a nice fake by Johansson then he put it in between Andersen and the post.  Don't get how you can call that a weak goal as Johansson was able to walk in right to the top of the crease.

Again, they were asking Marincin to try and fill in for Polak and what he does/did. Carrick played more all year but Babs never really trusted him in defensive situations(only 18 minutes of SH time all year).

Marincin, though he didn't get in as much, was relied on heavily in a defensive role when he was in, playing almost 4 times as much shorthanded as Carrick did all year.

So when Polak, their defensive minded penalty killing defenseman went down, it does fit with Babcock's internal logic for him to try and use Marincin in that similar role instead of Carrick. Whether or not you agree with Babcock, well, that's your call.

Most said it when it happened...Polak getting hurt will hurt us and it did. Marincin played well but he's no Polak in front of the net. That guy is totally boxed out on the play with Polak.
I really enjoyed watching the kids this year. Anderesen is the real deal. Yup a few weak goals but without him this is over in 4 and we don't even make the playoffs.
Matthews was a beast and is the Captain of this team. He's better then advertised.
Say what you want about Gardiner and Reilly..They sure elevated their games in the playoffs.
Not sold on Zaitsev tho...not for 7 years.
Great year tho. It was fun being a Leafs fan again.

Another good game. Caps looked so much better in OT than the Leafs. Their defense is just plain solid.

I'm sad it's over, but I don't mind losing against the Caps. I'm routing from them to go all the way now.

I'm a bit sad to see the season end the way it did, but what a season it was!
It far and away exceeded my expectations and I suspect those of nearly any honest Leafs fan.
5 OT games in a series matches the NHL record and that experience will serve this team well moving forward. The future is looking very bright!

Looking forward to the draft and free agency now, curious to see what moves will be made to make this team even better next season.

GO LEAFS GO!

Future so, so bright moving forward.

Fitting that the first goal of the season and the final goal of the season scored by your future captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs: Auston Matthews.

Actually pleased how badly all the guys took it. We'll be back, as God as my fricking WITNESS... we will be back.

Watching Matthews play in the offensive zone, and  make the right play so many times, and with such fine instincts, was such a treat this year.

And he was the Leafs best player tonight, IMHO, both with and without the puck.

I can really see the team potentially being built around him.

On top of everything else, he has such poise and calmness that belies his young age.

It was a really fun year to watch.

While things started well enough for him, Marner faded and didn't deliver the big game we were hoping for. Can't win when the powerplay's not going, and only one line is scoring 5 on 5.

And the fourth line was on for both. They looked good -- lots of motors on those boys -- but results weren't great.

I bet you if Polak were in the series and not Marincin and the Leafs lost in 6 we would be harping on Polak. I do not at all think we were a Polak away from either winning the series or forcing a game 7.

Good points but keep in mind Marincin played 6 more minutes then Carrick in game 1 with Polak in the lineup.  I find this quite surprising considering the fact that Marincin would have been a healthy scratch had Zaitsev been in the line up for that game.  Marincin was there 7th D all year.  Something must have happened in game 1 to move Marincin ahead of Carrick.  What that something is remains a mystery to me.
