Capitals @ Leafs - Nov. 23rd, 7:00pm - CBC, SN 590

Rielly supposed to be a scratch. Someone tell me why. Kid shows more every game. Ranger looked horrid last couple games.

Rielly and the top 2 lines look great thus far.  JVR made two great passes that would be goals if not for (1) a great save and (2) a flubbed tap in.  Rielly leading multiple rushes and the Kadri line cycling well.

Rielly's best period yet I think.  He can really exploit teams that play loose D like the Caps.  But has also made some good defensive plays, gotten the puck out.

Leafs looking pretty good so far.

They looked brilliant in the first the other night against Nashville too  :-X

The CBC feed is playing up so I'm watching the Washington feed. They're more complimentary of the Leafs than CBC.

When are we ever going to learn how to defend. Team has made no progress in that area in years. For f*** sakes what's it going to take. Pathetic seeing this night after night.

Right now there's simply a logjam on the blueline of too many offensive D-men who don't cut it defensively.

I think at some point, one of Gardiner/Franson will be the odd man out. Both are valuable players, but it's just a matter of there being one too many of them. The team needs a D-man who can stabilize and take some of the burden off the top pairing.

Kid is the real deal. When Burke said "if we had the #1 pick he still would have been our guy" a lot of my friends laughed at Burke. He made have been right.

I don't know if I'd go that far yet, but he's an intriguing player.

I think Dion, Morgan and Fraser (too weak to be of any value) are the only untouchables. Gunnar could move (rather not), Franson may price himself out but his trade value will be lowered then.  It really leaves Gardiner as the most likely to be moved for an upgrade.

Wouldn't it be fun to see this matchup in the playoffs?

Heart attack inducingly fun, yes.

Well, I'd never heard of "claustrophilia" until that British spy case, so I suppose there's something like "coronophilia"?  :P

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion as well.

Franson is an option but Gardiner might just be the one who has the right value where they can exchange him for a young center, or something that fits an organizational need.

Holland 5:36 in ice-time, Kessel 5:31, JVR with 5:21. The only forwards with less time in the 1st were the 4th line guys.

Carlyle hockey.  Leafs come out flat to start the 2nd.  Take a penalty.  Spend the majority of the period in their own zone.
