Nylander in my opinion needs to get signed. If trader
I would only consider 2 trades
To St Louis for Parayko and Fabbri
To Edmonton for Puljujarvi and Evan Bouchard

Don't see an Edmonton angle without a significant contract coming back to the Leafs.

Long time lurker here (since Plaidworks), I remember back in the day hearing about rumors from folks in this group that were close to the ground. With the current technology, I wonder if the big 3 are texting each other about Willie's contract. All 3 seem like they're friends. I'm not speculating on any of them, but I wonder how much they are communicating with each other.

Collusion! And that's why companies don't post salary lists. They might need to pay more to many employees and less to some.

Well they are part of a union. I can't speak for every State here, but most States have laws regarding the matter of discussing salaries. Nebraska for example doesn't allow it while on company time but while not getting paid you can talk all you want.

Again just wondering.

My hunch is that while they all still may be in contact, it's probably more likely that it's about normal friend stuff than it would be about contract stuff. Both because I think the guys playing are going to be singularly focused on the season but also because I think there's not much to say about the negotiations and it may be a thorny issue for friends to try and insert themselves into.

People speak anecdotally from experience all the time. I don't see how advice like that is highly unlikely.

Well, I think that anything specifically is unlikely given that we're shooting in the dark as to what might have been said between father and son. I was just saying that specifically saying to your kid to only go for the highest offer in every situation doesn't necessarily read to me as the kind of thing a father would say to his son. "Look out for your own interests" sure, "Only care about money" seems like a bad life lesson.

Obviously I don't know this but my feeling is that his father, who was a PITA to his NHL clubs, is a big influence in this mess.

Hard to imagine someone being such a problem for his NHL teams while also having a 17 year career. He also wasn't such a superstar that teams could just write off whatever problems as being automatically secondary to his on-ice contributions.

So clearly teams wanted him around.

He averaged 2.4 years per team played

Yeah but that's sort of a double edged sword. He got traded a bunch of times which means, I guess, teams thought he was expendable but it also means teams thought he was worth trading for.

I tend to come down on the latter half of that as Nylander Sr. was never a superstar so you'd expect him to jump around pretty frequently regardless.

Agreed. Great player, but he saw the NHL for what it is - a business. And I have no doubt he's a big influence on the standoff.

We need Nylander for a run this year. This season could be our best shot at winning. Still cannot comprehend him not signing. Reilly and Anderson are the real deal right now. I hope all parties come to a reasonable resolution.

We should promote that nickname, "real deal Rielly"

Which happens to be approximately how long Willy has played for the Leafs.
