Coronavirus

As much as I personally would love more punitive restrictions I don?t think fines like this are the way to go.  It?s ostensibly another poor tax.  If set at 50 or 100 dollars it?s punitive against low SES and not remotely a penalty toward anyone who can pay it easily.

I think there is more value in increasingly restrictive passport systems than an arbitrary financial penalty.

I've got no issue with it. I kind of think if you have to be hospitalized because of covid and are unvaxxed by choice, not by exemption, then they should bill you.

Teachers, parents, kids all trying hard to get through schooling

Ontario: this is too hard, so we are doing shrugging

Couple of people at my work seem to have it now (and we all work remotely), this thing is spreading like crazy.

Friends who've been careful all pandemic have almost all gotten it now, including some family members. It's wild! Luckily almost everyone I know is double (or triple) vaxxed and it's definitely helping.

A few of my friends caught in the last couple weeks, and it took all of them down for days. All are double vaxxed and otherwise healthy.

My son brought it home from the Y. (He already had a single vaccine dose),
My wife and I are both double vaxxed. We both got it. I was sick for about 2 weeks, with the worst being the first 3/4 days where I ate almost nothing for 4 days. Zero appetite. I had to force down food. Cold Sweats, coughing, stuffed up, no energy.... etc... It sucked.

My unvaxxed friend, who works as an LCBO manager, believes covid is fake and we're all sheep. It's just a cold he says.... He hasn't caught it yet, he has an 'immune system'....  It makes me mad.
My dad had a heart attack, then once he had heart surgery and released, his gallbladder acted up. He can't have the gallbladder surgery due to his heart and meds and can't do the heart exercises because of the extra strain on his body from his gallbladder issues and not eating properly. He's 74 and we lost my mom almost 6 years ago. I can't see my dad because this pandemic keeps dragging on. We can't get a PSW to help.... I'm getting really mad at those 'my freedom' people....

This sucks, and I wish you didn't have to go through it.

The number of people I know who have gotten COVID in the last few months has "exploded".  A friend's dad died (unvaccinated), another person I know distantly died (unvaccinated), a person from years past who is a late 40-year old is still feeling the effects months later and is using a cane (unvaccinated), and I know of a girl (23) who still suffers from long COVID after catching the virus in the early stages (April 2020).

A guy I play with picked it up from his girlfriend just before Christmas.  He was *only* double vaccinated, she with three doses.  She got away with a runny nose and sore throat for days.  He said it wiped him on his ass for almost a week.  The doctor made it a point to tell him that he was lucky he was vaccinated, and to imagine just how bad he'd be if he wasn't.

It's kind of ironic that those most careful are the ones who make up a good portion of the cases of people I know (affirming my belief that we're all bound to get it).

I appreciate that certain frustrations with how the pandemic has been handled are inevitable and some are unavoidable. I get, for instance, that no government can just snap their fingers and hire new nurses and doctors or increase hospital capacity even with a few years of headstart.

But it certainly feels like things like masks and tests should be more available this far into the pandemic, no? Like N95s or the equivalent available everywhere and inexpensive?
