ECF: (A3) Montreal vs. (M2) New York

Wow, three PPG in the third have really iced this one. 7-1 now, and I bet Nash gets zero credit for getting the 7th goal.

This was pretty much a goaltender's game, and goaltending was the key.  Lundqvist shone for New York, while Price seemed somewhat shaky especially after the collision with the Rangers Krieder.

True that the Rangers pounced and converted several misplays into quick rushes that translated into goals giving them upper leads of 3 to 1, then 4 to 1. Still,  Price just didn't
seem himself and the Habs just weren't themselves either.

If Montreal doesn't solve Lundquist & gives New York too much leeway, the Habs will be done.

DarrenDreger: Therrien with a stunner. In french says Price is done for the series.

Well, the series just tilted pretty heavily in favour of New York.

It's practically a fait accompli then that Montreal loses this series now without a solid, healthy Carey Price.

It's doubtful Budaj or Tokarski can hold a candle to #31, so to speak.  They'll need to be 'superhuman' and the Habs defence 'fortress-like.

Sorry Habs fans, doesn't look like the hockeygods are shining on you!

It's official:

Carey Price is out for the entire Eastern Conference final.

Wow, that's a huge surprise. This really does make things a whole lot tougher for the Habs. I may even pick the Rangers now. However, they still need to go out and win the games.

And the conspiracy theorists abound about whether or not it was intentional, or "accidentally on purpose", but I will leave that discussion to others.

At best it was reckless and stupid.

Probably NY is favoured, but you know how teams can rally around adversity..habs will still be tough.

To suggest that Kreider didn't have some idea that plowing into Price could be beneficial to his team's chances seems naive. It's hard to look at the play and see where or how he could've let up or avoided it though.

Do we just agree that forwards can wipe out goalies, as long as they're driving to the net with the puck?

I don't see Montreal lasting in this series now ,they may win a game or two but it has  tilted in New York favor. I would imagine Vigneault has the upper hand too  with knowledge he obtained when he coach Montreal.

Probably shouldn't say it and maybe it's being a little unfair or dismissive of the rest of the Habs talent but to me, this news makes it feel like this series is over. Assuming Lundqvist remains healthy, they were in tough to beat Lundqvist four times in six tries with Price.

It's just the worst kind of devastating injury to a team's chances when their goalie is such a key part of their success. It's too bad as it was much more likely to have been a competitive series.

The way Kreider did it was part of the game. It wasn't malicious or anything like that. He took advantage of the situation, with the hope of throwing Price off his game. Similar things happen with every team and every goalie. It sucks for Price and the Habs that he was injured enough to miss time, but, that's just life sometimes, unfortunately.

And now my dislike of Glen Healy is refreshed.  Good thing he was just faking there.  Didn't screw up his season or anything.

My only beef is that there was no penalty called.  Just a 2 min minor, that's all I wanted.  You shouldn't be able to go full boar toward the net, lose your footing on your own accord and go skates first into a goalie and not get a penalty for goaltender interference.  Kreider didn't want that to happen, but he knows it's a very possible outcome when you make that play at that speed...that's where I see the intent come in, or at least, a willful disregard for violent contact with Price.  The onus is on the player to control himself.

Teams aside, for the safety of goalies around the league, players need to show more restraint when crashing toward the net.

That said, Habs will win tonight, and the series.
