Game Notes

CGY
?Smith (3-4-1, 3.91 GAA, .869 Sv%) will likely start for the Flames
?36-year old Mike Smith is off to a rought start this season, and may be in danger of losing some starts to back-up David Rittich. Rittich has a 2-1 record with a .933 Sv%
?Calgary is getting some good offensive production from it's stars so far. Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm, and Monahan all have 10+ points in 11 games
?James Neal, their big free agent splash this summer, has just 2 goals and 3 points in 11 games

TOR
?Andersen (6-3-0, 2.58 GAA, .916 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?The Leafs announced this morning that they'll be without Matthews for at least the next 4 weeks
?Babcock kept the re-united Marleau-Kadri-Marner line together at practice yesterday, while putting Kapanen and Hyman with Tavares
?Dermott has recovered from what he called a 48-hour virus but will remain a scratch for this one. Probably due to a combination of Marincin's strong play and the fact that his conditioning might be a little off thanks to his illness

So glad they finally put Kapanen on the PP. He's getting reps at practice with the 1st unit in Matthews' spot.

We're basically missing a whole line with Nylander and Matthews out.

It's time for Johnsson to solidify his spot. He should be the best of the current bottom six.

This is a heck of an opportunity for a few guys on the roster to show their stuff with Nylander and Matthews not playing.

I'm a big fan of 2017-2018 Johnsson, so I hope he shows up.

I'm not sure if Brown-Lindholm is really the combo that is going to help get him going however.

I get that, but I think sometimes a guy trying to earn his stripes has to earn it somewhat with less than top-six guys.  He's definitely been better than he's played this year, so far.  Carpe Diem!

Not a great period for the team in blue. Lucky it's still 0-0.
Just remember, many of the Flames are Ontario boys playing in front of family and friends, so, they're playing a little above their heads right now.

Man, Marleau has aged 15 years over the summer.  It?s unfortunate but he is terrible.

He was pretty bad for long stretches last year as well but this is next level bad. He seems to have nothing left in the tank.

Gotta wonder how long he stays in the top-6. I know Johnsson hasn't blown the socks off anyone yet this season but playing with a bit more talent up front might help him. This is close to becoming the forward equivalent of the Dermott/Hainsey situation.
