Franson, Kadri, Gardiner, Reimer ... still Leafs at the deadline?

If a deal isn't done with Bolland before the deadline, he should definitely be moved.

And for Franson, there will never be a better time to move him due to his stats. He's a slow, #5 D that for some reason has had the fortune of being on the #1 PP.

But I'd be surprised if either or any moves get made.

For some reason? He has a good shot and puts points on the board on the PP. He has for 2 straight seasons. That's why he's on the PP.

Yeah Franson's a 3rd pairing PP specialist, basically.

As much as he is a piss poor skater he's got a nice shot and good offensive instincts. That he shoots right is an added bonus.

The fact that he sucks defensively, that defence is the Leafs archives heel, and the fact that Franson's value IS high (not to mention his contract situation), I agree that now is the time to trade him. I'd be looking for a younger, defensive defenseman with some offensive acumen in return.

It really depends on what his salary demands are.

I'm not ready to give up on Franson just yet, considering he's been forced into a 2nd pairing role when he's more of a 3rd pairing D-man.

But like I said it depends on how much he's asking. I'm not opposed to trading him.

I do see the sense in this.  Franson, Gardiner and Reily are all offensive dmen.  You can't have that many on a team and expect to improve defensively.  One at the very least needs to be traded this summer.  Franson is the most expensive option, but is also the biggest and has the best shot.  He is also a rare right shooting dman.  I'd be inclined to trade him since I think the next contract he signs will make him overvalued.

I wasn't suggesting not to trade him, just pointing out why he's on the PP.

Luke Schenn?

Luke Schenn?

I haven't been following Schenn very closely since he left the Leafs, but yes I would probably make that trade.

It's too bad Luke didn't pan out the way he was projected to.  That kind of player is exactly what this team needs.

JVR for Schenn LOL

Of course we could. The gift that keeps on giving.

JVR for Schenn. LOL, indeed.

I think I'd prefer to move him for the JvR equivalent of defencemen. Seems like a better team building strategy.

I still believe Wilson ruined/hindered Schenn's progress.  Same thing for Phaneuf - he totally sucked under Wilson, but has improved his play considerably since Wilson left.  Mind you, I am still not keen on Carlyle's system either.

So Minny asked after Reimer before settling for Bryz today.  That tells me that Nonis is going to hold out for a decent return on him, as he should.  If he's moved at all, that is.

Greg Brady. But from the sounds of it Minny was pretty much just calling everybody.

I think foot speed and a lack of nastiness hindered Schenn

I think he lacks hockey sense to achieve elite status.
