Game 15 - Panthers @ Leafs - Tues 11-08 - 7 PM SportsNet

I think Scrivens keeps them in this. Question is can the Leafs rediscover their scoring touch and score 3 in the 3rd to at least secure a point? Seems doubtful at this point.

Nik, I think globe reporter James Mirtle would like to hear from you.

@mirtle
Any Gustavsson defenders out there tonight?

When this team goes bad they really look bad.  Not going to happen because you don't fire a coach that will be 9-5-1 after tonight, especially on a team that is doing this after failing to make the playoffs.  However, Wilson really is stale and this team could certainly use the change.

Oh shut up millen, he didn't even touch the puck before he was cross checked.

And it looked like Kessel got slew footed to me. Watch it again if you get the chance. Millen's bad.

Can't agree. Yes, it was a poor play behind the net but it's a play that leads to nothing if Gardiner doesn't do absolutely nothing and just watch his man get behind him.

Well, I guess that's the crux of our issue, because, I feel that Gardiner was put into a position where he looked bad because of Gustavsson's mistake. I'm actually not sure Gardiner did anything wrong other than not being able to react quick enough. He saw his goaltender get to the puck behind the net, without any immediate pressure from a Panther forechecker, so, he figured Gustavsson was good for a routine play around the boards, so, he got into position to receive the puck and move it forward out of the zone. When Gustavsson whiffed on the puck, he was obviously caught flat footed, but, that's because he didn't expect Gustavsson to blow such a routine play so badly. I'm not saying Gardiner looked good on the play, but, more that, nothing there was really his fault - he wasn't given a chance to succeed because his goaltender failed so badly on that play.

No, I got nothing on that front tonight. He wasn't good. All I've got is that nobody else was either.

I know this will sound like a bias based on tonight's play, but it isn't. I've thought about this for a long while now. I don't think Gus will make it in Toronto. He just looks completely uncomfortable in net, and isn't improving fast enough to justify even a backup position on this club. I'm really hoping Scrivens can find a way to take over as backup. I'm also really hoping Reimer gets back soon!

I thought they had a decent 2nd period, but Gustavsson's poor play essentially killed any chance of winning this game going into the 3rd.

I think that's primarily where we disagree. Gardiner was just standing around in the slot. That's not a good position to do anything in that situation. Gardiner can't just let the forward behind the net and not be there to help out Gus. Even if Gus plays that puck cleanly the forechecker is cutting off most of what he could do with the puck.

Even if it's just a worst-case scenario Gardiner can't just stand around and watch a play when the Panthers forwards are down low creating traffic.

here comes a good 6 losses in a row.. different season, same horror show; win a few, everyone gets high on the team, then.. 10 game losing streak! It happens every year. If they have a November like they had last year Wilson better be gone. I never thought I would say this.. but I'm actually starting to lose interest. I've always been a Leaf fan, but this bullshit is getting old.

Yeah, so Scrivens shouldn't be in the NHL now...man do we need Reimer back.  Time for Burke to find a trade?

I think what we are seeing is the rebalancing of the record of a team that has been without its top goalie for weeks.
