Game 40: Leafs @ Rangers - Apr. 10, 7:00PM - TSN, TSN 1050

I know I was generally happy with the point but I watched the highlights this morning and we certainly could have had 2.

No shootouts in the playoffs and only 8 games left. Leave that concern for now.  :P

Good game by the leafs.  Would be nice if weren't the worst team ever at shootouts.  Reimer isn't a good shootout goalie so I didn't expect to win.  But he looked good last night, the shooters looked awful however.  Kessel scores two goals and doesn't get to shoot?  Stupid.

wow! why are so many people still witing for the sky to fall. face it already we have a good team people. my biggest worry now is if we can grab home ice advantage, I believe that is what we are playing for at the moment. lets hope this gets some of you doom and gloomers on the right page.  ;D

I would imagine it is because of last season's massive collapse. It is only natural for some people to be cautious about that.

Personally, I am looking forward to some Leaf playoff hockey. :)

He stopped 2 of 3, it's not his fault the team lost in a shootout.

However, I will never get worked up over a shootout. I don't care how many years it's been in the league, it's still a dumb gimmick...

There's extra pressure on Reimer since he realizes he has to stop all 3 (and maybe more) cause the Leafs never score on the shootout.  Once Bozak missed (only guy to score this year) Reimer knew it was over.

Meh, it's a crapshoot.

The Leafs are particularly bad at scoring in shootouts.  Of all the games in shootouts where teams have 20 or more chances combined, the save percentage for opposing goalies is a combined .658  For the Leafs, the goalies save % on 24 shots is .875.  Leafs are making the goalies look stellar.  Worse than that, Bozak has all 3 goals.  If you take away his shots the Leafs are 0.

Yeah, still not a fan - the overtime was far more exciting..

If you were to adjust the standings to ignore shootout wins (i.e. what the standings would be if the game ended after OT), not too many teams would be impacted - although I was surprised to see which ones would: In the east, the Sens move down 3 spots to 9th, Buffalo moves down to 14th, Winnipeg would be on top of the SE, and Washington would be 7th...

Reimer being a good or bad shootout goalie has nothing to do with why the team is losing in the shootout. They have 3 combined goals this year..all by Bozak. The goalie has nothing to do with that.

A better way of saying it would of been..."The Leafs suck in the shootout"

What the heck?  Two posts arguing what I said, but actually agreeing with what I said.  I said, Reimer looked good, the shooters were awful.

Ummm...I did.  I said it would be nice if the Leafs weren't the worst team in shootouts.

Did everyone just read Reimers name and make up what they wanted?

There would definitely be some interesting wrinkles. The Leafs would be 3 points back of Montreal and Boston for the division lead, and have an 8 point cushion on the 6th in the conference.

THere is of course no guarantee that the Leafs would have won one of those 5 OT which had ended in shootouts. However, in at least three of them - if I do recall correctly - they were better team, buzzing around, having scoring opportunities, which is good feeling going into the playoffs.

You now those teams relying on shootouts specialists, they will be toast in the play-offs, 20 minutes OT baby... The Leafs will do fine. Shootout can never be allowed in the playoffs. Never. (In some European countries they have it in the playoffs, except for Game 7).

It's overall still a crapshoot: http://www.arcticicehockey.com/2010/12/29/1901842/nhl-shootout-is-a-crapshoot [warning: maths]

Yeah overall it is, but I'm just pointing out that this season in particular, Leafs shooters are way below the average of other teams shooters with similar amount of chances.  They should have scored at least 7-8 goals on 24 chances not 3.
