Game 45: Ottawa Senators vs Toronto Maple Leafs 7:00 SNET-O

The poster who hates on Connolly at any chance?  There's a reliable source.

Well, I haven't paid as much attention to that guy as you have, but he's right about what he said. I don't know if he hates Connolly or not.

Again, what's a Sens fan doing on a Leafs centric board?

Talking about hockey?

There's a number of people that post here with opinions that I respect.

Right. You're here to stir up crap which you do a good job of knowing that cheering against the Leafs will get people upset.

Well, SP hardly needs me to defend him, but sorry, you're wrong. He does come here to talk hockey, not to 'stir up crap'. His choice of team to be a fan of may be questionable, but his contributions here are meaningful.

Even if his freakin' team did beat ours :(

I don't go to another team's board "looking to talk hockey" because I know the fans of the other team wouldn't appreciate my comments. You have to know that when you're in enemy territory you'll stir up emotions. To think you can just "talk hockey" while you're cheering for a team that 99% of the other posters support is naive at best and disingenuous at worst.

I agree with this notion.

Ahh, so, it's hyperbole you're going with, then? He stood there for a split second and was more like 15 feet away, saw the pass go behind the net and went off. What exactly was pressuring a player that was already passing the puck going to accomplish?

You're calling it hyperbole, I'm just calling it the way I saw it. You don't have to agree.

This team needs a goalie that can steal a game. Until they do they won't make the play offs. Awful game by Raimer.

I wouldn't say awful but it sure wasn't good enough.  I think Gustavsson has earned the #1 mantle for the rest of the season.

I really wish Reimer had played like this last season cause then it would have forced Burke to go out and get a goalie in the summer.  What a disaster we have on our hands now.
agreed

I'm not sure I'd go that far. Reimer hasn't been great, but, I still wouldn't be comfortable with Gustavsson as the #1. More like the lead half of a platoon. He's hot right now, so obviously, the Leafs need to ride him, but, we've all seen how quickly he can go cold and how long it can last.

There isn't any other rational choice.  (I hope no one will start suggesting  we run out and get a veteran goalie.)  Gustavsson has been way sharper even in his defeats.  I haven't given up on Reimer by any stretch, but right now he's playing like a guy in major sophomore slump.  He hasn't learned yet how to adjust his game now that the league has a solid book on his glove hand.

That's why you'll notice that I very rarely post in the Leafs Talk area of the forum, and when I do, I keep my comments pretty clean.

When the Sens play the Leafs though?  Yeah, I'll throw in a jab or too if a Leaf fan is getting mouthy.  That's what happens in a rivalry.

Just for fun, would you mind quoting one of my posts where the sole intent was to "stir crap up"?

"Getting mouthy"? The freedom to get mouthy in our support of the Leafs is why we're here and why you shouldn't be.

Meh

Officiating was horrific, if I'm Burke or Wilson I take the fine and call them on it, the Spezza goal and the Foligno hit especially and then to call instigator on Dion for the fight, despicable.

Maybe Reimer can go for a conditioning stint to the Marlies or something as that third was weak and he seems a shadow of his flash in the pan half season form last year.

Oh and Sucker Punch is good people, but this thread and right now ain't the time for that debate.

sucker punch has been a great contributor to this board for years, he definitely has the right to be here.

Please end that discussion now, and keep this thread about the game tonight, thanks.

I'm talking about the play immediately before that, not when the puck went behind the net after.

Then, I have no idea what play you think you saw, because I saw nothing else that fits into what you're complaining about.

azzurri63 saw it, it was the guy that passed the puck behind to Gonchar, it happened immediately before the play you're talking about. Connolly was 5 feet from the guy when he got the puck, instead of changing then, he stood there for about 3 steamboats and just watched the guy, doing nothing.

I remember the play vividly because at the time I said the same thing to myself and that was why Connolly wasn't pressuring the guy in the corner with the puck. He just sat there like you said for the 3 steamboats. When the puck went behind the net he headed off which was the right move in his mind. I don't think you can expect a giveaway by Gonchar there so Tim headed off.

Dudes chill.  Sucker and Madferret are probably the only 2 sens fans I can stomach.  They aren't here to stir up crap.  They've been solid contributors on this board for a while.

Sure I wanna punch em every now and then but they are good poop.  No need to go back and forth here... Like sucker said it's a rivalry so he'll throw in a jab every now and then.  God knows we did it to him last season and he kept coming back.

We need a shakeup and I would be very surprised if Burke doesn't do something soon maybe even before the weekend. Did anyone hear any rumors about Halak to Toronto. Don't recall where I saw it or if it was a screwup but don't really see why St.Louis would trade him at the moment unless they like Elliott that much more.

I tried to set the example for Sucker by steering clear of this place during the game.
But I love his moxy!
Leafs looked good tonight - that team isn't dead yet.

Bah.  The most galling thing is that you guys were supposed to be rebuilding and we were going to take the next step forward.  Instead we are stalling out just like every other year since the lockout.

Isn't emotionally following one hockey team taxing enough?

That is just it, once again I get to watch another Cinderella story, when do we get our glass slipper?

There are a few goalies available. I was listening to the radio today and they were saying how Miller wants out of Buffalo possibly. Also if Calgary continues to go down in Flames pun intended they are talking about a rebuild. I'd trade pretty much anyone on the team for Kipper.
