And the Leafs fans in away rinks are always louder than the ACC.

And that is why we stink at home... because we have the quietest rink in the NHL. our fans we had in buf were 1000 times louder than the 18,000 at home.

I really don't think there is a corration between loudness and performance. I've been to a bunch of Leafs games at the ACC and I noticed cheering even during the pre-season, but I do find it understandable that its hard to cheer when they blow a lead time and time again.

The bell centre is another arena known for being loud all the time but it was silent on opening day when the leafs were winning 2-0 and only livened up after the habs narrowed the to 1.

That's another thing - loud fans aren't necessarily good fans. I'm sure no one here would like the ACC to be filled with Leafs fans that act the same way as Habs fans. The last thing I want is for the crowd to cheer every team a Leaf is knocked down and then boo even louder when the undeserved penalty isn't called.

Nik Pollock said:Exactly. I may be flubbing on this but I'm fairly sure that the ACC has been said to have the best atmosphere in the league by players in the polling that SI does of them every so often. I just think that most Toronto fans are sophisticated enough not to equate atmosphere with noise.
bustaheims said:I may be misremembering, but, I believe similar polls have ranked fans at Leafs games among the most knowledgeable in the league.

Dear goodness, am I not. Sporting events aren't meant to be rock concerts where volume is a constant regardless of what is actually happening.

Colour me absolutely stunned that you would favour mindless noise over intelligent conversation.
