I just browsed the last 10 or so games that Fraser and Ranger were involved in. Lots of minuses with zero offence.

I'm pretty convinced that Fraser is still hurt, and that it's affecting his game.  He was playing better before his injury and I haven't seen that level of play since.

He has been playing with a knee brace.

One's thing for sure, the Leafs were a much better team with Bolland than without. I wonder what it would cost to re-sign him.

Over the last ten games or so, its been painfully obvious that the Leafs are continually losing battles along the boards, in both the offensive and defensive zones... we either get our chances on the rush, or we spend a solid minute trying to get possession in our D zone. We're badly missing a shutdown D to play on the 2nd pairing with Franson.

Getting Bolland back would help take some pressure off the D, but even so, there's a gap back there. Maybe its time to see what Reimer could bring in trade.

A little OT, but during the Chic/Tor game on HNIC, did anyone else notice that during the play, the screen would flicker/flash every couple seconds? It was driving me nuts.

I thought it might be my tv or cable connection, but I turned on the CBC online broadcast, and it was there too. Bizarre. Kind of ruined watching a good game.

Bolland will be nice to add back when he is healthy.  Bozak sounds to be have the same issue he had at the end of the playoffs last year which doesn't sound good.  I could be mistaken about his playoff injury though.

In the Armchair GM thread there is quite a bit of speculating going on with trades and who keep/bring in.

Oh, and welcome to the community!

Its season is slipping away before its very eyes. The defense corps looks skittish and unsure of itself, its star forwards seem to show up when they feel like it and their goaltending can?t possibly hold up the way it did earlier in the season.
In fact, this season has the same feel as the 2011-12 season for the Leafs.

Two seasons ago, the Leafs were 7-3-1 through October and were 16-13-3 and in eighth place in the Eastern Conference the morning of Dec. 18. This season, they were 10-4-0 in October and first in the Eastern Conference, and wake up this morning 17-16-3 and in eighth place in the east.

David Clarkson? There is irrefutable evidence this team is better without him in the lineup than when he plays. Clarkson has been suspended for 12 games this season and the Leafs are 8-4-0 in those games and have outscored their opponents 42-28. In the games in which he has played, the Leafs are 9-12-3 and have been outscored 77-54.

...he received 3:03 per game and last season he played 3:33 per game and was playing with Ilya Kovlachuk. This year, he?s receiving 1:46 per game on the second power play unit.

If the Maple Leafs don?t make the playoffs this year, and with a 7-12-3 record since the end of October that prospect is very possible, they can look back to the nights of Dec. 16 and 17 and lament the lost points. Realistically speaking, the Leafs should have earned three points out of games against an injury-depleted Pittsburgh Penguins and the Florida Panthers.

Coach Randy Carlyle was remarkably patient with his team and even gave them the day off Wednesday.  Cody Franson said the Leafs made a bunch of ?uncharacteristic? mistakes, but the only problem is the way they played was quite characteristic of their effort and execution since Nov. 1

I think  "Broken" is a good statement for this team right now...the question is...is it broken and can be fixed within, or is it broken beyond repair? No, I  don't think this is an overstatement...to go this long without putting together any real semblance of good hockey is a definite red flag...look at Montreal....they had a few bad games, but you can bet that with last nights win over Phoenix, they will be back on track....truly good teams do not go this long in a "Slump"...the real scary thing is, on paper, we should be much better than we are...something is missing...I heard part of Ric Nattress on Tim and Sid yesterday...basically, the cohesion is missing...individual play, trying to live up to contracts, no real team unity that apparently is harder  to foster in this era of big salaries...a very insightful piece...and for the players to play a rush game, night after night, with the coach trying to teach a cycle game? I think Randy is only still there because of the embarrassment associated with firing him...doesn't matter if he is a good coach...it seems the players have tuned him out....this really seems broken folks...and broken is the right word.

I've had it with this team. There's no passion that I can see when they play, no determination to make things happen, no extra gear when they need it (and every other lame cliche). The closest any player on this team came to exhibiting any of those qualities is Lupul, and that's been absent as well lately.

I thought maybe Clarkson was going to kind of be that grab the team by the throat kind of player and make things happen, but he's, well, not doing that.

This team needs an identity makeover. The Leafs have some good parts, but I know it sounds silly, but they don't have any of those 'intangibles', like say, Grabovski had. As much as they annoyed me, this team needs personalities like Tucker and Roberts type players.

The Wilson teams you knew would suck by just looking at the rosters, but this is just really frustrating because on paper they seem like a decent team, but the product on the ice has just been garbage.

^THIS^

The Chicago game was pure fluke I think. It did nothing but grab my attention again for a fleeting moment. There simply isn't a way these guys can be HALF that good on a consistent basis. Honestly, I don't know what this team is. No heart. No identity. Just (as you say) 'garbage.'

I have to agree and it's very frustrating to watch.  You look at the team on paper, and it seems like they should be much better than what they're showing.  As a fan, you've had to watch a team disappoint for so many years and you want to get to a point where you're like a team like Pittsburgh or Chicago, consistently great regular season teams where it's not even a question of whether you'll make the playoffs, but just how far you'll go once you get there.  Leafs had a good run in the Sundin years with 6 straight playoff seasons, but now they're so crap.
A franchise with such deep pockets should be able to have the best coaches, GM, scouts etc to build a great team over a 9 year span.  What Leafs fans have witnesses since 2004 has been pathetic.

I see that emotion and passion in both Bernier and Reimer and fittingly they are the only reason the Leafs are still in playoffs position. These two want to win every night, Bernier fights, hits... Reims makes consecutive 50+ saves performances and his BS and half-of-the team-does-not-show-up comments after the Panthers game is another prime example that these two guys really care. Goalies, for Christ sake, what the other guys do?

Couldn't agree more! There's talent on this current club, but not a lot of maple leaf pride. Every player just kind of looks like an "asset", not a building block. Even Kessel.

Roberts, Mogilny, Sundin, Tucker... even Domi... who are their equivalents on the current roster?

The Leafs need a guy like Leo Komarov...

Love to have Leo back too...

This is how I felt after episode 1 of 24/7.  They've got it pretty good in Toronto... take away the bubble hockey table and make them use broken toasters until they win a few games.  8)

Yeah, screw this "family day" the Leafs put on.  I saw a bunch of the Leafs children laughing and having fun on the ice - it's nice those kids can laugh while their father can't win a game.

They weren't laughing from having fun.  They were laughing because every last one of them beat Mark Fraser in a skating competition.
