Gustavsson

If we look at stats only one could say that Gustavsson and Mason are the worst goalies in the league.

Of the goalies listed on TSN Gustavsson has the worst GAA in the entire league now, Mason has passed him :)

I know some posters were worried about losing Gus on waivers if we tried to send him down to the Marlies. Anyone still think that would happen?

No way, that move is a non-stop to the Marlies if it happens.

why the smiley?
I thought it was funny that even Mason passed him despite having a really crappy season, but it seems as if he is rebounding a bit now.

OK, I've had enough.  Who cares what his GAA is?  He's 4-4 in the only stat that counts, way ahead of Mason BTW.

Gus has been completely up and down, but he's gotten acceptable results -- for a backup.  Yes, if your backup runs at .500 it's acceptable.  That's not good enough for a starter, and I'm not saying that Gus has been good enough if he is considered as a replacement for Reimer long-term.  But all the nonsensical flak he's gotten on here is absurd.

Overall he's been mediocre.  Criticize him for that if you must, but the criticism should be moderate, not over the top.

I'm onside.  :)

How is it over the top to just say that his GAA is the worst in the league of all goalies listed on TSN? It's a fact, it's not an opinion.

He may have a terrible GAA but that doesn't necessarily
make him the absolute worst goalie of all time.  He's
average, mediocre, at best.  Still leaves a lot to be
desired, at worse.

So, not every single person agrees to heap scorn on Gustavvson just because of the numbers he's put up.
Call him weak, call him what you will, the Monster needs
confidence restored to both himself and his team.  How
this will happen is anyone's guess.  Maybe not with the
Leafs for too much longer.....

Before the season started, I was high on Gus, thinking all the talk about Reimer was over-done and that Gus could surprise.  Well got the chance to stand right behind him at C.F.B. Trenton and besides his size, he didn't seem professional.  He seemed 'sloppy' like someone stole his equipment and was pretending to be a goalie.  I don't have any faith in the 'Monster'.  The best thing for him would be going to the minors or being picked up by another club.

No, it's your constant criticism and the fact you find it humourous that he has the lowest GAA that is over the top. It's as if you want him to fail.

You may want to rethink that a bit. Unless you think the team can continue to outscore its obvious problems then GAA is indeed a stat worth looking at. Gus has been a disaster just as team defense has been a disaster.

4-4 is a disaster?  Only in HyperboleWorld.

Well this is no different than the leafs pk, I'm just pointing out how bad it is. Gustavsson must be more stabile, if not we should trade him. I don't want him to fail, but either he starts playing better, or he should be traded. We can't afford to be nice to players if we want to make the playoffs.

Yup, let's trade the back up to make sure we get to the playoffs, what a sound plan.
Yeah, because Gustavsson has really helped us improving our chances? Schrivens is playing better, and when Reimer gets back, what should we do with Gustavsson then?

True, but we're 4-4 despite his goaltending, not because of it. Two of those wins his SV% were under .870.

Send Scrivens to the minors or trade Goose but you nailed the point, the Leafs need a starter, 12 consecutive games and counting now.

While Goose isn't a starter he's an adequate back up, Scrivens needs to play so I'd let him eat games in the A while developing and keep the Monster.

Back ups are generally meant to augment the starter, not replace him outright.
