There's plenty of logic if you read Trump as an extremely broke and compromised narcissist who will amorally do the bidding of whoever a) gives him money, b) polishes his knob in public. Musk appears to be in a similar boat and is being used to front the nitty gritty details that Trump does not have the brainpower for.
Like Trudeau said (out loud!) today, and what we've already discussed up thread, Trump's puppet masters are looking to control the trade routes and resources of North America (Panama Canal, Arctic seaway) via economic warfare --> annexation of Canada etc. Trump's puppet masters don't really need to care about public sentiment because they have control of the government levers of power and courts and the court of opinion (mainstream and social media).
No one is really doing anything because most normal people and still working federal civil servants are still playing by the rules, whereas Trump and co. have a great deal of experience from the last time in playing like the rules don't matter. Most of the laws really only work on people with a conscience or shame. I don't think there's a way out of this within the norms of society.

Zelenskyy, unfortunately, doesn’t have much choice. If he doesn’t find a way to get the US on Ukraine’s side, things won’t get better anytime soon.
I get it. It’s just sad.
The trade war is blatantly illegal under USMCA. The fact that they can make up any rationale as an emergency is idiotic, considering the scale between what happens at the Canadian border and the Mexican border are worlds apart, let alone the fact that we have a crapton of cocaine and guns coming in through the States. They're a much bigger threat to our security than we are to them. They have to say it's about fentanyl once in a while to make the emergency order seem kosher when it so clearly isn't.
