Idiocracy

The thing that remains baffling to me, when looking at this post mortem, is that there seems to be some real lessons here about the dangers of extremism for the GOP politically. Loeffler literally ran on "I'm the most Conservative senator in the entire GOP with a 100% pro-Trump voting record" while both Democratic Senators did whatever they could to appeal to suburban voters with Warnock, who is legitimately a radical preacher in the best sense of things filming his ads about just being a regular dog-walking suburban dude.

Despite this I'm not seeing any sort of "We need to appeal to the middle and moderates" from any Republicans in real authority. Now, I realize that any Republican with real authority in the Trump era is going to be categorized mainly by their tenuous connection to reality and willing to buy into GOP extremism but after a pretty devastating election where the GOP lost the House, Senate and Presidency you'd think there'd be at least be some strategic reflection.

The GOP has basically shown zero ability for self awareness or introspection over the course of the past 4 years (some individual exceptions, obviously, but the part on the whole has been terrible about it). I don't think we'll see any of that until the Trump cabal is truly behind them - which could be a while, if DJT's spawn and their partners decide to stick around the political world.

Honestly I think they are just banking on the usual stupid voter base thing to happen.  Biden is going to pass a crap load of stimulus because it's essential to fix the incompetence and neglect of the last 4 years. The debt will be huge and stupid voters will blame Biden for the faults of the Republicans.

While the Democrats to the Presidency, Senate and held on to the house at the end of the day the Republicans still hold 52% of the State legislators to the Democrats 47%.  Gerrymandering is still on the table and I don't think the Republicans took enough of a beatdown to make them think they lost because they were wrong in how they approach governance.

I think its fantasy to think that when Trump goes away we see any sort of reform because this is all just natural progression from stuff that has been doing on since Reagan, and the blatant public support of crazy since the Tea Party became a thing.

I mean its great that the Democrats eeked out wins against two awful people.  But Stacy Abrams did some phenomenal grass roots work to get the vote out particularly in the African American community and we are still talking about barely beating two senators who pilfered money the entire time they were in office, did absolutely nothing for their communities and are running for the party that isn't shutting down coup attempts.

I think its great that Biden and Harris will get a fair shake to get their platform across.  I think its great that there is going to be a better opportunity for the more progressive voice of the Democrats to expect some of their platform to be taken into legislation because you don't have to put outright poison pills to get McConnell to bring it up for a vote, but I'm still very leery of 2022.

While I admittedly haven't put much thought into it, I've wondered why the hell more Republicans haven't cut ties with Trump as soon as it looked like he was going to lose. The scary reason is they know the same base that supported Trump will be supporting Cruz in 2022, who I suspect to be a front-runner to "correct all the damage down by the commies Biden and Harris."

That's kind of what I'm saying. Once voters are entrenched in ideology rather than voting for their own personal benefit that's where you're screwed because GOP ideology will break Dem chances unless Dems can really hold the line, and what are the chances of that? You can't have honest conversations about the direction of the Democratic party if the GOP voters go rank and file regardless of their actual interests. It's an awful system where more and more the only way to keep power is to lean into a large level of voter ideology. I don't see an obvious end to hyper-partisanship unless the GOP is punished for being wildly incompetent or overly populist and they aren't and won't, and it's hard to see how this isn't the new normal (voter suppression, hyper demagoguery) going forward if Dems basically have to run perfect campaigns against people who don't care about their own constituents or upholding the constitution or democracy.

Nah, Trump's base will never go with someone like Cruz or Rubio. They see them as useful dopes, but never as their leader. Tom Cotton/Josh Hawley types are more likely.

The crazies outside are already breaking through barricades.  Things might get a little ugly tonight.

This is &*&(*&(*&( insanity.  They are literally on the rotunda of the Capital building.  No rubber bullets.  No tear gas.    They are evacuating congress and still no response and lockdown.

It's not about race though.

Nope. Definitely not.

If this was a crowd of brown or black people, we'd be talking about one of the worst government mandated massacres in U.S. history.

The DOD just refused to activate the National Guard.

This was what they did for the BLM protests:

I just watched a video of someone taken off on a stretcher all bloodied.  They were doing friging chest compressions on her as they were going to their ambulance....she was shot.  What an absolute travesty this whole thing is.  Sounds like she was shot by one of the LEOs on the site.

Another idiot is positing pictures after breaking into Nancy Pelosi's office and because they were forced to evacuate immediately computers were left on so he was positing photos of her email.

(CNN)In case there was any doubt that President Donald Trump and his allies see Wednesday's votes in Congress as a pure loyalty test, Eric Trump cleared that up with a single tweet Tuesday night.

"I will personally work to defeat every single Republican Senator / Congressman who doesn't stand up against this fraud - they will be primaried in their next election and they will lose," tweeted the son of the 45th president of the United States.
Eric Trump's tweet is in keeping with what has been coming out of his father's political account for weeks now: Vote to object to the Electoral College results on Wednesday (with no proof of any wrongdoing!) -- or else.

The best part was when he said the "MAGA movement isn't going anywhere," which is absolutely true, but not in the way he intended.

Apparently we are taking things country wide.

Protesters have gone into the Statehouse in Kansas.  They are certainly not being aggressive but its more Trump idiots.  They are also showing up in Atlanta now too.

Atlanta's not a surprise - Trump's been so focused on Georgia, it was basically inevitable. Kansas is kind of out of left field.
