4 on 3 PP and you have Marner on the blue line part of the diamond.  Why?  Why are you putting the worst shooting guy out of those four in the point shot scenario?

If you tell him not to shoot, he has the most passing options there

Matthews got off one decent shot but him being hampered really takes the edge off the PP.

Pass to William so he can pass to Tavares or Matthews or just fake and rip it himself

Isn't that exactly where he should be? You don't want the guy on the blueline to be shooting, especially on a 4-on-3. Marner's there to feed the puck to Matthews or Nylander on the sides for shooting opportunities. It didn't exactly work our how they drew it up but in theory I think their set-up made sense.
