John Scott traded to MTL for Jarred Tinordi

Wonder if there were also some issues with Tinordi he doesn't want to get into publicly.

Maybe. He could also just be referring to the fact that he didn't want to bring Arizona's financial issues to the forefront if that played a part. I just don't get why he didn't have a generic answer planned that didn't have the shifty-eye treatment to it.

"Tinordi wasn't working out on our team and we didn't think he would make it through waivers. With this trade we acquired two players with NHL experience who also give us flexibility in that they can both go to our AHL affiliate until a need for them arises on the NHL roster."

I came up with that in 10 seconds, and I avoided pouring a bunch of gasoline on a fire that was almost out.

Now do it in French!

Yeah I don't really know, fwiw Lebrun thought it was to do with Tinordi as well.

Be less weird about this, Bergevin.

To be fair he has constructed a top level team in Montreal.  He can afford to be vague for no reason.

Remember kids, John Scott being involved is making a mockery of the sacred tradition of a three on three one period tournament coached by Country and Western singers.

John Scott will wear a black jersey  with the logo of the All-star game for the skills competition next week and not a team jersey.

What? He's a Hab, let him wear a Canadiens jersey.

Officially, he's an IceCap . . . and I think it would be great if he wore his AHL jersey for the skills competition.

He's a member of the Montreal Canadiens, he has a NHL contract with them. I wonder if they would technically have to call him up prior to the game as well so then he would be a Hab in every sense.

But yeah, I'd be fine with him wearing an AHL jersey instead.

I want him to turn on the Pacific division during the 3on3 competition.  Embrace the villain role.

As unnecessarily controversial a statement as that obviously is, and as much as it obviously invites more attention to John Scott, is there a chance that that statement has more to do with Tinordi than Scott?  I've heard his dad isn't an ideal parent for a manager to deal with.

What's the matter? Bettman couldn't find a fourth guy with a beard?

It's like they're exclusively marketing towards racist white people who won't watch Basketball and Football anymore.

"Let's pretend we like a bunch of things that stereotypes say dumb racist whitey likes and then they'll come watch us and we'll get a larger share of the TV revenue in the U.S."

Either that or they are losing on purpose to sandbag Reimer.

On 590 this morning, Elliotte Friedman spoke at length that in the context of the question that led to that quote, he's pretty convinced that he was speaking about Tinordi and the need to move him out.  He was pretty insightful about how both Arizona and the NHL approached the trade:

- that Arizona wanted Tinordi
- that there wasn't any other player on their roster that made a salary fit in the trade for Montreal
- that the NHL wanted Arizona to wait until after the all-star game to complete the trade, that Arizona didn't want to risk the trade falling apart by waiting
- that the NHL was upset that Arizona didn't wait on the trade and wouldn't allow them a replacement player to go to the all-star game.

I don't entirely get it. Is the context that there were these unknown sinister forces that forced the Habs to make this trade out of a desire to rid themselves of Tinordi or is it that Arizona really wanted Tinordi? Because you'd think that those two things are, to some extent although not entirely, in conflict.

Also, if the first two points there are true then it seems like a relatively easy trade for Bergevin to explain.

"Celebrity".  I guess the winner of The Bachelor season 14 wasn't available?

They are embracing Nashville's country music heritage. I know that Vince and Dierks are both very big hockey fans.

I can't directly comment on the context of the original question, because Friedman only referred to it vaguely and they couldn't find an audio clip of it.  And I don't know what you mean by unknown sinister forces, but would say that Friedman believed it was a "real" hockey trade in which Scott was thrown in to make things balance out best for both sides in terms of salary.  And I neglected to say that Friedman felt the Habs wanted to get rid of Tinordi for unspecified reasons.

Regardless, it remains an unnecessarily baffling answer to Bergevin that only invites more questions and speculation.

I suppose I'm referring to the suggestion earlier in the thread that Tinordi's family is tough to deal with or unspecified things to that effect.

Oh, okay.  Friedman didn't speculate too much as to the reason why Bergevin wanted to trade Tinordi, but only that it seemed that he did.  The speculation about Mark Tinordi was my own, and nothing really either confirms or refutes that.
