Has he given indication on when he will make his decision?

He can't sign until noon on Sunday, so, probably around then.

Dollars to donuts says in this era of Twitter , Youtubes and wireless telegraph that we hear it before then.

Also I guarantee that someone starts talking about how sick they are about hearing about Schultz and how he is dragging things out prior to Sunday.

It's a possibility, but, that assumes he actually tells anyone what he's decided before then. Honestly, with the way things have played out with this, I have my doubts we hear anything much before than. Maybe Sunday morning, but, that's about it. I mean, he's still meeting with teams today. He might not have a decision until Sunday.

Right, as teams leak that they've been eliminated from the bidding process, it'll likely be down to one, maybe two teams and it'll be known before the signing period opens. I doubt he keeps all the teams that he see's pitches from in the running right up until the end.

This whole thing really is turning into a circus. I mean, I hope the Leafs land him and he is as good as all the hype, but I have concerns on both of these liklihoods.

Seriously, but it's all media driven.  He can't sign/announce the contract until Sunday but there's SO many reports about him that we're already getting sick of hearing about him.  If he turns out to be a bust will this dampen the *next* college free agent that hits the market next year?  Probably not, people have short memories or think "maybe this NEXT guy will be the star"

My guess is the list of 6 that we have so far (EDM, OTT, MIN, NYR, VAN and TOR) stays that way until a decision is made. The final decision will likely be made in a long meeting with his agents with all 6 offers on the table to start and none of the teams being contacted until the end.

Don't confuse the media attention with what's actually going on. He's a pending UFA, taking meetings with prospective teams and then signing an entry level deal. That would make for a boring ass circus.

Well, he has a lot of hype because he is a lot like a free first round draft pick and there are very few of those.  Something like 50% of first round draft picks after the first 5 don't turn out to be NHLers.  Still, in todays NHL, first round draft picks have a lot of value (the other 50% DO turn out to be good NHLers).  So even if Shultz doesn't pan out, assets like him have a lot of value and fans should be (relatively) eager to get as many as they can....

The last situation like this in terms of media frenzy was Brad Richards, in that instance they started eliminating teams, because teams started to leak unsuccessful pitches to the media.

I just assumed from that, that this would likely go a similar way.

Yeah, but that all happened in the 24/48 hour period, and, by the time teams really started leaking that they were out, Richards was about to announced he'd decided on the Rags (which, with how things played out there, appeared to be his decision from before the process even started). That could be the case here, but, it feels unlikely to me.

I should say that another reason for the degree of hype around Shultz is that there just isn't that much else to hype because the UFA scene is so thin this year.  If there were a ton of other useful UFAs with lots of possible destinations to choose from, Shultz might not be getting quite as much attention.

At least we know Gardiner is in town, probably will be part of the Leafs delegation that presents to Schultz.

I'd actually be surprised if that happened. It'd put both players in a rather awkward position. Besides, any discussion between the two about Schultz signing with the Leafs has probably already occurred. Putting the two in the same room with a bunch of the Leafs management and Schultz representatives wouldn't really accomplish much.

Yeah. I mean, it's probably pretty safe to assume they've spent a good chunk of Schultz's free time together, and I have to imagine the topic has come up between them. Having him the room doesn't really provide anything.

So the Rangers are getting him?

Unless....

Burke gives Schultz a contract to sign with Gardiner sitting across the table from him. Burke pulls out a gun and points it Gardiner's head and tells Schultz "either your signature will be on that contract or Jake's brains will".

Negotiating!
