Komisarek

If he can't be moved, the Leafs need to just suck it up and ride out the contract, unless his cap hit puts a fantastic signing at risk (doubtful).  I don't want him on the books in 2016.  In an idea world though, he plays well next year and redeems himself.

After 1, tied with four others for 3rd in hits.  5th in ice-time for Leaf defensemen.

He was hitting hard and often last night. His mobility has gotten better with the drop in weight I think.

Its turn or burn for him I would think, I'm betting he turns it up.

Barely noticeable last night, which is good for him.

I like Komi, and root for him, but after what we saw out of Kostka last night it's pretty clear who should be dropped once Gardiner comes back.

I would drop Franson to the third pairing with Gunnarson and play Liles with Kostka, with Phaneuf and Gards together on the top pairing.

Only think I see out of Komi now is if the argument can be made that we need more sandpaper on our back end.  At least Phaneuf will throw down at the drop of a hat, and I would say Gunnarson has a bit of silent physical edge out there as well.

Komisarek had 6 hits and 4 blocked shots last night. He didn't try to do too much, just sat back and played his game. Still think he gets amnesty'ed at the end of the year but I hope we see more of this.

i was watching him closely last night and I found that he floats out of position, in our end, way too easily. He ends up half way to the blueline most of the time. It didn't hurt us last night against a weak opponent but it could kill us againt upper competetion. I am rooting for him though. Hopefully Carlyle and the coaching staff can go over the film with him.

Last night was probably the first time Komisarek has played with a solid defensive partner in his entire time as a Leaf, which is pretty sad. Gunnarsson is going to make anyone look better defensively, so the best part about Kostka stepping up and playing with Phaneuf is that it frees up Gunnar to stabilize our other two pairings a little bit.

I didn't think Franson played well.  Liles had to save him a couple of times.  I think since Komi adds size and toughness to the team I think he has the edge on Franson.

I don't see the point of the buy out for a team that has plenty of cap space and only one more year on the contract.

He's signed through next year, the cap drops 6 mil and price performance is an issue.

I figure he's a goner at the end of the season if they can't unload him before that,

You never know, maybe the Islanders would take him for a song if they really need a cap floor boost ( if he'd go there ) but otherwise yeah.

I like Komisarek.  He seems like he's a genuine guy, sticks up for teamates, works hard, etc.  But there was one play in the game the other night where the puck is deep in the Leafs' corner and, unexplainably, he leaves the front of the net and goes into said corner and joined Gunnarson, who was already there (covering Pcioretty, if I recall?).  Puck comes in front of the goal and, thankfully, right to Armstrong who misses the net.

Like I said, I like Komisarek.  But these are simple, positional mistakes that a veteran defensive defenceman should not be making.

Yeah he seems like a good guy, but he always seems to be running off into corners or up the boards and the big hits are few and far between.

Talking about Komi or Franson, I agree that what Komi should bring is something we really need.  Problem is when I look at how they actually play, one doesn't stand out to me as much better defensively than the other while Franson does have the ability to put the puck towards the net offensively.  If Komi started playing better positionally and laying guys out again it would be no contest.  I feel like with Schenn gone Phaneuf is the only guy we have who is really a threat to lay guys out and that is pretty weak (unless Kostka is a big hitter I don't know).

I thought Komi was hitting pretty good Saturday night. I also thought his positioning was better than it has been. He's quicker than last year and I believe his weight loss actually is helping him in the areas he needs to upgrade.

It's getting a little embarassing at this point, especially because its such a non-story. It's the 800-pound gorilla in the room: Komisarek is all but written out of the Leafs lineup at this point.

He has cumulatively played almost exactly 1 hour all season long. What becomes of him from here on in? He could be done.

It's difficult because why buy out his contract this summer when he has one season left? He may have to be buried on the Marlies. Its a shame because I have always liked the guy, but his on-ice feats since with the Leafs have left much to be desired.

If he could be sent to the Marlies I imagine he would have gotten the Connolly treatment out of camp, he has a NMC.

He will be bought out because he is taking up a roster spot and can't be moved.

Because he has a no movement clause and the buyout is use it or lose it
