Leafs 2013/2014 Schedule in 10 game chunks

Great record in the first 10, although at times it didn't feel like it.  Team seemed to be outplayed for long stretches yet managed to win 70% of their games.  Hopefully the team play improves with Clarkson back, although they can't get much better in the win column.  I'll take 7 out of 10 any day.

Good luck to the Leafs in November with those back-to-back games.  Hoping they'll keep up with the positive record.

yeah, that?s terrible 4 back to back games. But on the other side these are winnable back-to back games. I mean against Columbus should be a win, against Penguins most likely a loss. Oilers (W) - Flames (W/or point for whatever loss in OT/SO), Devils (W) - Bruins (L) and finally Sabres (W) - Sabres (W/point for whatever loss in OT/SO). IMO the Leafs can easily get 4-2-2 record from these 4 back-to-back games, which would be very good combined with W against Wild and Canucks.... 8)

We usually play pretty good against Pittsburgh, I wouldn't say its a for sure loss there.

These next 10 games will be a real test for the Leafs. They aren't amazing teams, for the most part, but those back-to-backs will really be tough, especially with players starting to come off injuries.

I'd probably be more worried about it if I wasn't still riding the feel of a 7-3 start.

Would be great to have both goalies clicking right now with those back to backs coming up. Hopefully Reimer is strong in Columbus.

I could see us going 7-3  again this second set of ten. but most likely 6-3-1  is a better call. I'll take that any day.

6 wins looks totally plausible, to me.

CBJ
EDM
NJ
BUF (1 or both, though we never win in Buf)
CGY
MIN

Quite doable actually..

I'd expect nothing but a 2 game sweep of Buffalo cause they're so bad this season.  That said I see 6 wins easy, let's hope.

I'm too lazy to look up the stats but I feel like most of those opponents were kind of easy except for Colorado and Chicago that we lost to.  Still can't argue with 7-3.

OK I looked up the numbers anyways and the teams the Leafs beat are 28-29-7 and the teams they lost to are 18-4-5.  Actually that's not too bad I was worried that the teams they were beating were averaging under .500 (ie. we're only beating losers). And the 18-4-5 shows that they only lost to pretty good teams (Col and Chi only have 1 loss and Car has 2) which is a good thing I think.  Obviously this sample size is small and isn't reason to panic or celebrate either way.

Teams in Top 8

Montreal Win
Colorado Loss
Anaheim Win
Chicago Loss
Carolina Loss

Teams in Bottom 8, we beat all of these.

Ottawa
Nashville
Edmonton
Minnesota
Philadelphia

Of the teams in the bottom group, I'd say several have under-performed and are better than their record suggests.

If I were the Leafs, I'd try to win as many games against the lower teams as possible.  There are opportunities here to gain access to more points/wins.  That is not to say they shouldn't try against the top teams.  Every little bit counts, in more ways than one.

This new playoff format is going to be annoying IMO.

Playoffs based on last year's format (I'll give Detroit to the NE and Columbus to the Southeast)

1. Pittsburgh
2. Toronto
3. Carolina
4. Detroit
5. Boston
6. Tampa
7. Montreal
8. Ottawa

Playoffs based on new format:
1. Pittsburgh
2. Carolina
3. NYI

1. Toronto
2. Detroit
3. Boston
WC1. Tampa
WC2. Montreal

Ottawa misses the playoffs.  Carolina with the 5th best record in the Eastern Conference gets to play the 8th best record in the East.  Pittsburgh with the best record in the East plays team tied for 6th best record in the East.

The way it's looking right now, a team from the Atlantic will get shafted because of this set-up. Right now there's 6 teams that look fairly solid.

The Metro division looks a lot worse in comparison. Outside of Pittsburgh none of those teams have winning records. And the Devils, Flyers and Rangers have all been laughably bad so far.

Strange upcoming schedule. No games between Saturday and the following Friday.

What the heck am I supposed to watch during the week? Other teams???  :o
