Leafs 2013/2014 Schedule in 10 game chunks

finally some competition...this team really plays down to inferior competition.  Maybe playing against some better teams will raise their compete level and hey, maybe this can turn things around.

or maybe they'll get smoked...only time can tell.

It will be funny to look back at the panic that ensued if this great "regression" turns out to be a run of .500 hockey.  If that is as bad as it gets, LOL.

That's over the past 10 games. Over the last 15, they're 5-7-3. Also, last season, a .500 record was good enough for the 8th overall pick. Same with the season before. A long stretch earning half the points available in today's NHL is bad. I mean, there are currently only 6 teams in the league who are below .500 in their last 10 - 5 of which are in the bottom 10 in the league. It's not something minor to worry over. These days, it's a pretty significant slump.

That is some sobering data indeed.  Wow.

red wings lost 7 in a row just a couple of weeks ago...and their still not out of it.  no doubt the leafs have to string together a good streak of games (something like 7-3-1 or 6-2-2) but having a 5 game losing streak early in the season is not a killer by any means.

and looking at the next 10 games if they play .500 hockey and start to get healthier and are competitive in games I'll feel a whole lot better going forward than I do right now.

After the 4-4-2 slump last season, Leafs followed it up with 6-1-3, so getting points in 9 of 10 games.  That's what they need to do in this next stretch of games.

No one is saying they can't put a great stretch together, only that they can't do it the way they've played so far this season.

Yup. If they were struggling in terms of their results but still playing well, I wouldn't be all that concerned. In that situation, the current slump could be chalked up to bad breaks and bad luck. It's quite obviously not that, though. It's a result of the same poor play we've seen from them all season. It's been worse during this stretch, sure, but it hasn't been good at all this season.

Don't make me bust out the Zee guaranteed performance prediction-o-meter.  Cause I will!

Hey I still look forward to every game with optimism despite how they're playing once the games start.

Me too Potvin, I think we have a much more talented pool of players than in years?and if they are on they are fun to watch?sometimes painful too?but think about a healthy Lupul and Bolland for the past 12 games.

2 regulation wins in the last 16.  Ugggggly.

Only 3 non-shootout wins. They've won 3 of 12 games that haven't gone to a shootout, and only 6 of 17 overall. There's lots of ugly to go around.

It's pretty bad when I looked at the boxscore today and thought, "oh they only gave up 39 shots, not too bad"

The next 3 are gonna be brutal. At least Pittsburgh will be without Neal, Martin, Scuderi, possibly Malkin. Detroit might still be without Datsyuk and Zetterberg. But the next 3 games... yikers.

LA is heating up. 1 regulation loss in their last 15 games.

St. Louis and Chicago are both damn tough to beat. St. Louis has one of the best home records in the league.

Yup, it all comes down to Reimer/Bernier heroics
