Leafs acquire Foligno

It's worth noting that part of the cost of the transaction is getting the cap hit cost down to only 1/4 of his actual hit. Doing that at a time where very few teams have any cap room at all is never going to be cheap.

Definitely a pricey trade, but it was probably no secret to Jarmmo that Foligno was Dubas's prime target and he made him pay for it.
Would have liked to think a 2nd and 4th should have got this deal done.

This might be the last chance for Dubas if Leafs don't make it out of 1st round this year.

Leafs Second rounder is in the high 50's...Foligno isn't worth a 1st but he's worth more than that.

if 1/4 of his salary is worth a 4th to SJ....then half his salary is probably worth a 3rd + the player.  If the Leafs had a pick in the high 30's that would be fair, but they didn't, so a late 1st it is.

The cost is what it is.. Good on Dubas for grabbing him and Rittich

Definitely a steep price to pay for Foligno but one I think that is worth it given where the Leafs are. Having both Foligno and Nash heading into the playoffs are the type of warriors this team needed. I also have a feeling Dubas still isn?t completely finished.

If we get bounced in R1 Dubas may not be the only one whose head is served up on a platter.

It would depend on how they went out. If the team got covid, Matthews goes down etc.
No guarantees but I don't see MLSE blowing things up.

It's a bit steep, but not outrageously so, they are all in this year due to the divisional component and the fact they're leading the league.  I'd imagine they had a very specific toolset in mind and Foligno ticked the most boxes.

oh geez. I hated Foligno sooo much in the OHL back in the day  (he played for Sudbury).

He's got a lot to prove to change my mind :)

You'll like him I think. He's an a$$hole but the type that you love to have on your team.

Well put. I like the move to add more defensive style players to help offset the offence-first guys. In my mind this has clearly been the problem for the team in the playoffs . Let?s hope it gets beyond the next level of playoff success !

Saw one thing about Foligno that I haven't seen pointed out before: he's a semi-capable faceoff guy too. That's not the most important thing in the world but this team really struggles on PK draws when Spezza isn't the one taking them so Foligno could help there.

Essentially they got an older, somewhat slower, meaner Hyman

Foligno will just kind of fit on whatever line and in whatever situation they want him to. Over the years, I don?t know if the Leafs have lacked talent in their playoff matchups compared to who they were playing against ? even peak Boston, I thought the Leafs were pretty close talent-wise because they had so many good players. What they really lacked, to be honest, was matching up and any sort of lineup versatility. They had no options, basically. They didn?t really have anything they could move around or play with.

The Leafs have a critical mass of players who can make elite plays.
But now they also have a critical mass of players who will die for the crest.
They acquired those players in the correct order.

Also this fun tidbit:
When I worked for him, Leafs GM Kyle Dubas told me that he?s sick and tired of hearing Hall & Oates? You Make My Dreams every time the Leafs scored.
LMAO we scored too many goals

Dubas and Keefe are going nowhere if the Leafs get bounced in round 1 this year.

Keefe isn't getting fired if the Leafs have a failed playoff run. He hasn't even had a full season with the team and in 88 games the Leafs are 55-25-8 (.720 PT%)

I wouldn't be so sure.  Probably not likely, but if they were to get smoked like Columbus did to Tampa....

They would react the same way Tampa did.

Well, hopefully we won't see.

This has to be noted as well..word is that Wash and Vegas were in in him to and he chose Toronto.
Anyway I think he goes on the Tavares line to start.
