Leafs @ Canadiens - Feb. 8th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

That was one of their best team defense games all year.  I'm not unhappy with the result at all.

Again, it's too early to really say this but I hope Keefe will be willing to put Sandin and Liljegren out late with a lead over Barrie.

I dunno why the schedule makers have the leafs play back to backs against a rested Habs team every game
There's no reason for any team to play back to back games.

This is insane.  They are professional athletes.  They can?t play two nights in a row?

The other guys are professional athletes too, understand professor?

Is your point that every team playing a back to back should be outshot 16-1 in the 3rd?  This wasn?t about being tired.  It was about being scared.

Just watched that goal again. Barrie also decided to stop skating at the end and let Kovy have the puck. A lot of this just comes down to effort. How badly do you want to get back in the play? Were they just expecting a clean breakaway goal?

It's not just the back to back, but 4 games in 6 nights I think was the real reason that they looked a little sluggish all night.

What about Monday night when they quit playing in the 3rd?  This is 4 straight games where they played well in the first two periods.  And then in the 3rd they were awful.  That?s a trend.  It?s cost them 4 points in the standings.

We gained 3 points on Florida so what's not to like? Team played well defensively. Both Barrie and Spezza made bad decisions to shoot but that's the way it goes. Matthews who played almost 25 mins, just missed the puck on the OT goal. Did I mention we have a back up! Solid game.

You see that all the time with guys coming back on breakaways. Don't know why. Out of gas as well?? Matthews was def empty.

It's just become so routine to expect a bad 2-1 or breakaway against in OT while we have to actually work to gain the zone most of the time. I don't think it's much to ask for them to make a responsible play if you don't have a good avenue to score or the play is high risk. Barrie has terrible decision making instincts.

Yes he really seems to doesn?t he? There should be no way he considered taking that shot

I wonder if the illness that?s keeping Nylander out of the lineup is effecting more of the roster. Would explain some of why they look so sluggish in the 3rd periods of late.

For sure that must be it.

Yes, I don't agree with Strangelove here.  Fatigue is fatigue no matter when it happens in the season.  They plainly looked out of gas the whole third period.  Not surprising since the whole game the first 2 was up and down.

They are a young team and have had plenty of time off in the past month. Completely running out of gas on back to backs has been a problem all year, which speaks to certain players? commitment to conditioning. For example, Hyman seemed as fast as ever, while other better paid players did not.

I also happen to know that a few of our young stars go out partying most weekends. Hyman isn?t one of them. My sense is that?s what Keefe was alluding to when he called the Leafs an immature team.

This is the worst team ever.  No other team in the history of the league struggles in back to backs.  RAAARQWAARRARHQWHWWHWHWHW

Ok Dr. Phil.

Lc9?s only satisfied if the leafs win 6-0 and outshoot the opposition 35-10.  Then he won?t complain about something

Teams a joke. No clue how to put teams away.
Like Xmas all year round with this team keep on giving.
On one hand I somewhat agree because this is what happened recently but they're 21-2-2 when leading after 2. For comparison the Bruins are 18-1-6. Their real problem is how often they've trailed after 2 and how few times they've actually come back to win or tie.

You?re veering into straw man territory. It?s not unfair to question why the Leafs are the worst (second worst?) team in the league in the second game of back to backs.

Hutchinson?

Regarding tonight they didn't play badly most of the game but Montreal pressed and Barrie made bad decision that lead to the OT goal. We need some depth scoring.

No kidding. F'n horrible team. They suck!
For those who like to whine about every little thing. How about you just  stop watching if they piss you off so much. It'll be better for your blood pressure! Remember folks, it's just hockey. Nobody's life is hanging on the results.
