Well, we both know how much our opinions differ on this. I think a coaching change, at best, would help only in the short term, and at worst could severely hamper the progress of the team. But, I'm sure at some point in the future Nonis may consider having his own coach, since Carlyle was a Burke hire.

I honestly don't see how a coaching change could hamper anything. The defensive play can't really get much worse. A new coach isn't suddenly going to make the goaltenders forget how to play or take away the offensive skill from the top line. The positives on the team are mostly independent of coaching. At worst, a new coach would have a net neutral impact on the team and could have a significant positive impact if they could bring the team's defensive play back to even near average levels (and I really don't believe the talent on the roster isn't capable of that). And, it's not like it would have a negative impact on the young players, either. There's only one player on the roster who hasn't played for at least 2 coaches in their NHL career. They all have experience with adapting to new systems and new coaching styles.

Love those late in the game offensive zone face-offs with Jay "no offence" McClement.

Even the defensive zone ones hurt. There was one he took with Lupul and Kessel, the Leafs won the draw and moved into the Washington zone but McClement changed a little late so Kessel and JVR were by themselves in the zone as Kadri was trying to get into the play. The Caps were able to clear the zone pretty easily because they essentially had a man advantage for their breakout.

He does this so much. Barely plays McClement then gives him important offensive zone draws when team needs offense.

Great. Listening when can and heard he went to room. Or thought I did

He did. Took a shot from Kessel off the foot and was clearly in pain. Looked serious but like I said he went to the room and came back out pretty quickly.

That play by Lupul sums up his game. He had a lot of time and should have done a lot more with the puck.

This game is largely on Randy. He iced the wrong line-up, as was pretty well evidenced by his hapless juggling of the lines late in the game. When is he going to get it right?

Yeah. I mean, I'm willing to overlook the defensive ones to an extent, because I think the logic is more sound there. He's a defensive-minded player and all. But, in offensive zone when the Leafs really need a goal? He's a black hole when it comes to offence. He really shouldn't be getting much, if any, ES ice time when the Leafs are trailing in the 3rd.

Playoffs would be nice but this team has major major holes in their overall game. I am a huge Leaf fan (20+ years) but the realist in me doesn't see this team turning it on in the playoffs.

Clarkson: same old same old. Waste of a roster spot.
