Leafs @ Jets - Jan. 3rd, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

Considering the circumstances this result was pretty much what I expected, but if anyone wants to fire Carlyle over this, please be my guest!

I doubt we see a firing or a big trade before the next game, but I'd at least like to see some roster movement and new blood brought onto the team. Waive/send down Hozer, Smith, and Ashton. Bring up Loov/Nilsson, Leivo, and Brown. They'll all clear no problem, even if they don't no big loss. Do something like this for Washington:

Leivo-Bozak-Kessel
JVR-Santorelli-Panik
Komarov-McKegg-Brown
Booth-Winnik-Clarkson

edit: Leivo's still hurt, a shame. Maybe try Abbott or Frattin again.

Theology for losing:

"This has been a terrible trip for our team," said Phaneuf.
"We didn?t get nearly the results we wanted or needed and we got to go home and regroup because this has been a not a very good trip all-around."

"It?s been a busy week with a lot of travel and some tough teams on the road," Leafs goaltender James Reimer added. "Tonight, maybe we were a little tired, but I don?t want to give that as an excuse. We are all professionals and we got to find a way to win these games when we are tired."

Phaneuf agreed with his netminder.

"I don?t think we are in the position to use our schedule as our excuse," he said.

Excuses, excuses, but nevertheless excuses.  Reimer's correct in his assessment and to an extent, so is Phaneuf.  Still, fellas, excuses are excuses and you didn't give that fan any excuses to NOT throw the sweater onto the ice!

Santorelli played with heart.  Can we say the same for the rest?!

Got a feeling this could be the end for Ashton. Think he'll be waived before the next game and someone else called up.

None too soon.  I never got all the defenders.  That guy has nothing.

I'd rather have Joe Colborne especially with injuries at C, how great would it be to have him right now?

Notwithstanding the fact that colborne has been hurt most of this season,  how good would it have been to have colborne last year when bozak and bolland we're injured.

To keep Ashton over colborne was a horrible decision from a franchise perspective.

Most of us really just want to see what he can do getting more than 6 or 7 minutes a night on the 4th line, and under a coach that isn't Randy Carlyle.

By that logic, explain Richard Panik.

That isn't at all what happened. A spot was retained for both McLaren AND Orr and Colborne, who was out of options, was essentially let go. Ashton had options last year and this year; he wasn't kept over anyone and could/can be sent up and down from the Marlies without clearing waivers.

No one is saying the direct reasons why.  Just that indirectly, today we have Ashton and we don't have Colborne.

Because, as I just said, Ashton has/had option(s) and Colborne didn't. They didn't want to risk losing Colborne for nothing if they had to send him to the minors so they traded him for a 4th. It has nothing to do with Ashton. Ashton could have played all year on the minors last year and this year without be subject to waivers. So saying they chose Ashton over Colborne is akin to saying they chose McKegg or Carrick or Holzer or any one like that over Colborne. There is no correlation.

And, for the record, the post I responded to was criticizing the fact that the franchise chose Ashton over Colborne.

As for indirectly stating things, well the Leafs have Trevor Smith on the roster and gave up Alex Steen.

The recent stretch has shown what a limited player Bozak is. He's basically become a mediocre powerplay specialist. Even his faceoffs are down. 5 on 5 he's a straight up liability.

Without Kadri the Leafs are basically garbage.
