Game Notes

TOR
?Andersen (27-15-13, 2.73 GAA, .916 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Nylander with Matthews, Brown with Kadri, and on and on we go
?Gardiner was paired with Zaitsev at practice yesterday while Rielly paired with Marchenko, indicating that Marincin will return to the press box
?Looking at Tampa's injury list and you really realize just how lucky the Leafs have been in that regard this season
?This is pretty easily the biggest game of the season for the Leafs so far. They trail both the Islanders and Lightning by a single point for the final WC spot, but the Leafs have a game in hand

TB
?Andrei Vasilevskiy (17-13-6, 2.53 GAA, .919 Sv%) will likely start for the Lightning
?Vasilevskiy is 5-0-1 since Ben Bishop was traded, with a .956 Sv% during that span
?Former Leaf Byron Froese played a pair of games for Tampa with their injured centres out. He was pointless and a -2 in them
?Froese was reassigned back to their AHL team yesterday though, indicating that someone (likely Namestnikov or Johnson) is ready to return
?The Steven Stamkos Watch is officially on: he's started skating and shooting, although still without the rest of the team. But a return later in March seems possible at this point

Injuries

?Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
?Joffrey Lupul - ?\_(?)_/? - Out indefinitely
?Stephane Robidas - Old - Out indefinitely
?Connor Carrick - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Vladislav Namestnikov - Lower Body - Questionable Thursday
?Tyler Johnson - Knee - Questionable Thursday
?Cedric Paquette - Leg - Questionable Thursday
?Steven Stamkos - Knee - Injured Reserve
?Ryan Callahan - Hip - Injured Reserve

I'm calling tonight's clash the 'weather vane' game.

Which way are the winds of fortune blowing for the Leafs? What's the forecast?

I think we'll have a pretty good indication after this one.

The good news is that even after this game we'll still have a game in hand but this is definitely and must win. We still have one more game against Tampa but it may be too late by that time to make any impact if we lose here.

GLG

Froese was called back up and was on the 4th line at practice, so looks like no reinforcements for Tampa just yet.

Good God, that Tampa team is decimated.  Namestnikov looks to be down for the count now too, as he isn't even listed in today's lineups.

4 points nights for McKegg and Froese both?

How does Leivo not draw into the lineup after the trainwreck game against Florida?  That's a pretty nice statement from Babcock that terrible performance has few consequences.

Looks like the new plan today is cycle for the high slot bomb as the Lightning are doing a good job taking away home plate for the most part. Leaning to the right side as our RWs are better.

Boyle calling for the puck as Vasilevsky went to play it would've been hilarious if it worked.

I'm a bit behind but Millen just said that Babcock is really good at shifting his players around when he feels they need it. I've been laughing for the past 2 minutes.
