Maple Leafs 81 goals in 23 games
Oilers 79 goals in 24 games

Sportsnet: "Pretty good job for the Maple Leafs to shut down the best scoring team in the NHL".

Also, in terms of goals/game, the ?best scoring team in the NHL? is Tampa.

Just browsing twitter it's amazing how triggered fans of other teams are at the Leafs success. "The division sucks!", "Why don't you look at points % Tampa is better", "Leafs will still lose in round 1!"

It's like other fans don't want Leafs fans to have any enjoyment at all.

These EDM guys are annoyingly homerish.

They seem like..Really stupid.

To be fair I?m sure non leafs fans don?t love Joe Bowen?s calls
Joe Bowen isn't on SN

So?  Watch Cassie Campbell or Kelly Hrudy do a flames game.  It?s no different.  They?re the home announcers,  they?re gonna be biased
My point is the Leafs cast generally calls a fairly balanced game where the other regional casts don't. Therefore when you're stuck on the other feed it can be annoying. Thats all.

Michael Hutchinson has started 3 games for the Leafs this season.
He is 2-1-0 and has given up 7 goals against, 2 of which were PP goals by Calgary, for an all situations Sv% of 0.924 (0.926 at evens).

Thank you for the super jinx.

3-1-0 0.943 you are welcome

Credit to Hutch. He looked leaky in his first start, but has been great since.

It helps that the Leafs are building towards 5-man smothering defensive cohesion, and puck holding offence, that will lead to goalie-performance agnosticism. Birthday boy definitely bailed them out a couple times, especially early on, but once the first two shots went in, the Leafs never really did anything more risky for offence and just choked the fun out of the game for Edmonton.

Hutchinson wakes up on his birthday having a better save percentage this season than 70 other goalies. Not bad for a scrub.

And to think how many leaf fans we?re happy to see them fire him off into the sun only to come back home following year

I mean they kind of turtled at the end. I think they were lucky to keep it at 3-0 but I don't think the outcome of the game was really ever in doubt.

I must say that I've been thoroughly impressed by Mikheyev, Engvall and Hyman. Their effort level has been off the charts. Their speed and agressiveness has eaten the Oilers alive the last two games. Hyman almost seems to be in a different gear when he's separated from the top lines. Mikheyev has been fantastic too. I think most impressive is that these players crash and bang. It's exactly what you need out of a 3rd line.

There was a shift towards the end where they got stuck chasing the play for like a minute and change, but once the puck got freed, Hyman got on his horse and trucked hella fast and hard to drive the puck into the OZ and give his linemates an easier change. I don't know where he got the gas to go, but I think the rest of the team really appreciated that.

That was the shift where despite chasing the puck around the kept Edmonton to the outside and along the boards.  Obviously winning a puck battle there or getting a stick in the passing lane would have been better but it felt like even in Edmonton's controlled shifts they couldn't generate good chances.  They also never really got consecutive pressure shifts, especially in the 3rd when the Leafs were playing more conservatively and score effect shifted the shot totals.

I remember the exact shift. It was a little "chicken with the head cut off" but still effective. I was actually most impressed with Mikheyev on that series. I love aggressive 'D-zone' play. Mikheyev and Hyman both play that way.

I couldn't believe that burst either. I thought he would have been gassed. What is he, $4-5M player?

I checked the end of the game and the broadcast didn't pick this up, but it happened right at the end. This was the aftermath, worth pointing out the Oilers were holding the puck behind their own net to end the game so it happened about as far away from the play as possible:

Chiasson was given a 5 minute major for cross checking and a 10 minute game misconduct at the end of the game.

I would still like to see a Bogo-style depth guy added. He brings a great mix to the lineup that cannot be replaced with the current depth at this time. When Bogo or Muzzin is out it is a tangible difference in style of play.
