I don't know if this team is really as good as Tampa or just looks like it right at the moment but I would love to see the Leafs ? playing like this ? match up in the playoffs with the Bolts playing at their best.  That would be intriguing.
Vasilevskiy has apparently been playing out of his mind.

Yeah, surprised to hear that shutout string of ours was only third best this year.  They said he's working on 160 minutes?

There really isn't a way to mince words here, the Leafs kicked their butts all three games.

And, if my memory serves with respect to your opinion of EDM, this ought to make you a very, very happy fellow.

Five teams in that division has scored as many or fewer goals as Ottawa in that division.  Maybe he just isnt facing good competition.

Just on another forum listening to Oiler fans complaining about lack of PP calls. We know how you feel was happening against us. Maybe they should look back at the Oiler game where they got the calls and refs screwed us. Wasn't it against the Oilers when we were up and they got a weak call on MCDavid and then a phantom call on Kerfoot to give them a 5 on 3 that changed the game? Suck it up bi****es.

Man what a horrible series for the Leafs, let's recap:

  • Oilers completely shutdown Matthews
  • Anderson only wins one game
  • Leafs penalty kill was horrible, only one successful kill
  • Simmonds was invisible
  • Mike Smith consistently bulled Leafs forwards with no response from the team (hello Simmonds? or maybe Anderson if he's not too busy not winning games could be bothered to stand up to the opposing goalie!??? Where's the heart??)
  • Jujhar Khaira, he of 59 career points, made Marner look absolutely foolish in a play that is sure to be replayed constantly on Sportscentre
  • Barabanov is a bust - Dubas should be fired for wasting time and assets on someone who is sure to be a perpetual healthy scratch
  • Keefe elected not to play Matthews on a PP late in the 3rd; perfect opportunity to break him out of his slump and he sits him. Real genius there, can we get rid of this clown?

Need I go on? Just a complete embarrassment of a series, this is a true moment of crisis for the team and I'm not sure I have faith they can get it together. I think we need to blow up the core and start again from scratch.

Coming out of retirement to say that's as thorough a dismantling as I can remember the Leafs doing.  Maybe the Sens in one of those playoff series in the early 2000s.

This is ban evasion!

Remember when Edmonton thought they could hang with the Leafs? Lol

Whoops.

Didn't one of their players make a comment about how they beat the Leafs and the Habs, and that means they should be considered to be at same level as them? They may have been right about the Habs, but...

Bogosian continues to be so reliable. What a pass.

While I think he's an upgrade over Ceci defensively too, it's weird to think that the biggest boost he brings the team over Ceci might be offensively. Cody was just such an absolute blackhole/offence killer whenever the puck touched his stick. Bogo is at least semi-competent in that area.

I really liked the Tavares defense that led to that goal

I think it was Nuge that JT just said nope to, ripped the puck away from him and started the breakout and touch back to set up Nylander for the pull back and slightly lucky snipe.

I just rewatched this play. NHL.com actually catches the Tavares defense in their clip.

Kris Russell (!) springs McDavid at the blueline with a stretch pass at about 1:51 left in the 2nd, who quickly crosses over with Ennis with a drop pass.

Tavares, fresh off a change, harasses him immediately, grabs inside position on Ennis' turnback and asses him out of the play and stick lifts Ennis' over extended posture easily. Puck is freed up for Rielly.

Rielly carries to the line and reverses flow again by going back to Tavares who was shooting up the left wall. Tavares crosses into the centre lane using Kerfoot's soft/slow pick and finds Nylander who was carrying a bit more speed and space.

Caleb Jones leaves his feet to try to Brodie the puck off Nylander in the right-slot and gets a little bit of it, but not enough. Tyson Barrie has a really good view of Nylander pulling the puck back. Smith slides into position from tracking Tavares and gets into position, but Nylander shoots mid-blocker against the grain, off Smith's arm and in. Josh Archibald and Tyler Ennis look on with reluctant awe and the fake crowd goes wild.

That's an awesome account of it...but what got me was the "fake crowd goes wild".  :D
