Leafs @ Oilers - Mar. 3rd, 8:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

I just watched the recap and I noticed Smith gave Hyman's head a half-hearted swat after he scored.

Man what a horrible series for the Leafs, let's recap:

  • Oilers completely shutdown Matthews
  • Anderson only wins one game
  • Leafs penalty kill was horrible, only one successful kill
  • Simmonds was invisible
  • Mike Smith consistently bulled Leafs forwards with no response from the team (hello Simmonds? or maybe Anderson if he's not too busy not winning games could be bothered to stand up to the opposing goalie!??? Where's the heart??)
  • Jujhar Khaira, he of 59 career points, made Marner look absolutely foolish in a play that is sure to be replayed constantly on Sportscentre
  • Barabanov is a bust - Dubas should be fired for wasting time and assets on someone who is sure to be a perpetual healthy scratch
  • Keefe elected not to play Matthews on a PP late in the 3rd; perfect opportunity to break him out of his slump and he sits him. Real genius there, can we get rid of this clown?

Need I go on? Just a complete embarrassment of a series, this is a true moment of crisis for the team and I'm not sure I have faith they can get it together. I think we need to blow up the core and start again from scratch.
You Sir, are a true Leaf fan! ;)

Canadian hockey MSMs are really an interesting bunch.

Toronto vacillates between "We are professionals and fans of no team but their stories" to "These no good bums are lazy, fat, foreign, and they should be more like the truly awesome Leafs like this lunch pail guy from Middle-of-Nowhere Ontario who played for the Leafs that one time on the 4th line for 2 games".

Edmonton: basically waterboys trying to explain why the Oilers losing is just a mirage and it really was the fault of that guy that was just traded (mostly Taylor Hall)

Calgary: the city and its taxpayers should really pay for a new stadium, man the Saddledome sucks and so does Toronto.

Vancouver: Fire Benning and Acquilini

Montreal: wow the Habs are sooooooo good we even might have a 20-goal scorer this year!

Winnipeg: this is our time. Scheifele and Wheeler and Byfuglien and Laine forever! also analytics is fake news

Ottawa: it's Melnyk's fault

I don't think you can forget the ever-present "Montreal is the toughest place in the league to coach or play. By far. The hardest. Hear that? We, the Montreal media, are by far the biggest dicks of all of the media. Did you know people here speak two languages? Imagine how tough that makes it. Toughest in the league!"

I don't know if this team is really as good as Tampa or just looks like it right at the moment but I would love to see the Leafs ? playing like this ? match up in the playoffs with the Bolts playing at their best.  That would be intriguing.
Vasilevskiy has apparently been playing out of his mind.

Yeah, surprised to hear that shutout string of ours was only third best this year.  They said he's working on 160 minutes?

Five teams in that division has scored as many or fewer goals as Ottawa in that division.  Maybe he just isnt facing good competition.

Hogwash. That division is so strong defensively! Best in the league. Toronto could never compete there.

Whether the division is crap or not Toronto sure does make all its opponents look like it! The extreme change in narrative for every North team (besides #1) on a weekly basis truly is comical. It doesn't feel that long ago that other teams would contemplate all their decisions if they lost to lowly Leafs.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty good.
He was pissed and although he wanted to thump him it wasn't warranted.
