Bob McKenzie was... wrong? What planet is this?

Next time find a more reliable source!

So last time I can recall this happening was when Boston signed Marty Turco in March 2012 and he wasn't eligible for the playoffs.

I am pretty sure then that the rule is trades can start happening once the playoffs start, but only between teams not participating.

He may have been partly right and partly wrong:

for example:
Islanders acquire goalie Halak from Capitals

The Washington Capitals traded goaltender Jaroslav Halak to the New York Islanders on Thursday for a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Halak will become an unrestricted free agent July 1, giving the Islanders two months to sign the Slovakia native to a contract extension.

If I remember correctly, trades can still happen at any time. It's just that newly acquired players cannot play for their new team until next season. Same thing with trades made during the playoffs.

Maybe it's the older CBA but this may be an exception to that ..

Yep, Bob McKenzie just tweeted out and basically confirms this - any player can be traded after the trade deadline but they're not eligible to play in the regular season or playoffs.

I was cheering for Florida last night and not for tank related reasons, what great moxy from the goalies, I was genuinely rooting for them to win, first time I can honestly say that.

That Huberdeau-Barkov-Jagr line was fun to watch.

Yup. Like I said before Christmas, I like Florida's young core and Winnipeg's style of play.  If the Leafs went bankrupt right now I would probably cheer for one of those teams.

Yeah. I wouldn't be too sure about that.

We've seen enough fight in this team when the chips are 'no longer' down, it's hard to imagine that very much has changed with this squad this year.

Last season they won 2 of their last 14 games.

Last season their drop-off didn't start until much later in the year. They began their descent much earlier this season, giving me reason to believe there is time to make another charge up the standings. I obviously hope I'm wrong, but I'll hold you and Busta to your comments, that you believe tank nation has nothing to worry about. ;D
