Oof. Can't leave Crosby alone in front of the net like that, I don't care who gets the goal.

It was weird because Phaneuf usually plays Crosby pretty hard, but he completely ignored him there.

I thought he played him terrifically on the entry and in general was good on him all night. He just had a bit of a lapse there at the end.

Not that I'm mr glass half full, but if I was a leaf fan, I'd have taken an OT loss after the 1st period.

For a team that struggles with consistency, the one thing they are consistently good at is making games seem closer than they were.

Straight in... wow... having Phanuckles and Frantzen on together at any time is like trying to win the derby with the Budweiser wagon team

Crap like this is why I'll defend Phaneuf.  Stops best player in the world one on one and then a goal goes straight through Bernier's glove?  Still criticize Phaneuf.  Okay.

Yeah really though. Phanuef was good tonight...Bernier not so much.

Yeah, Phaneuf was good this game, no doubt about it.  The D as a whole played well ... for stretches.

I liked Holzer this game.  Maybe I was watching more for him.  Seemed to hit like a tank.

mirtle: Leafs 42% possession tonight. Didn't convert on three power play chances either.

Considering they were at 36% after 1, a pretty solid effort the rest of the way (with a few hiccups, obviously). Just not good enough. Can't be that bad in the 1st and expect to win.

Agreed. Just watched the play again. Phaneuf completely ignores Crosby after battling with him from the zone entry to that point. Reminded me of that fronting technique Wilson used.

And that's a pretty great team.

Yup. If they could have played the first 20 like they did the final 40, they could have easily won . . . but, being dominated 5 on 5 for long stretches like that is a hallmark of this team.

you make it sound as if the other team has no say in the game

You know, I'm sure guys like Crosby and Malkin have games like Kessel's tonight but I'll be damned if I've ever seen one.

No, he's just saying that the Leafs make it easy for them.

Obviously, they do, but, that doesn't takeaway from the fact that this is a common occurrence for the Leafs. They showed in the 2nd and 3rd they can hang with the Pens. Why couldn't they do the same in the 1st? Why are they so often finding themselves behind early in games? It's not just the other teams. This is an issue with the Leafs.

I'm hoping lupul can prove he's healthy for a few games so that the leafs can move him. Would love to have that cap space available going into next year.

Much rather see Panik and Leivo on the 4th line.
