Sparks is really not an NHL goaltender
Yes he is, he has a contract and a renewal contract. Therefore he is an NHL Goaltender. Learning yes, but what was Freddo in the first 2 periods of the last two games? Cattle feed?

For the amount of games they play McElhinney performed well and should have been kept unless it was money saving.

Going back to the decision to keep Sparks over McElhinney, I'm not sure they really had much a decision there.  If you dominate the AHL and you are 10 years or whatever younger than the other guy then you should get the nod.

But I can't see Sparks being back next year.

Unless of course you have had the chance to evaluate both at the NHL level and one showed you he could do the job while the other didn't??

Sparks proved he wasn't an NHL goalie last year?

No, a few years ago and now it has been verified.  What did Mcbackup do to lose his job? And when dud Sparks win it??

First time I?ve started to lose faith this season, this is just inexcusable against a hugely inferior team.

Sparks could be better, but the team in front of him is a disgrace.

Honest question, why did it take til game 72 to draw this conclusion?  They have played the same brand of hockey since Dec 1.

Honest answer, in terms of talent they are top 5 in the league. They are or were second in league goal differential. They had a vezina calibre goalie.

My issue with them now is that they consistently get outworked and if you allow that your skill means nothing.

Against the best teams, that work like animals most nights, flicking a switch for 20/40 minutes will never work.

Assuming Gardiner is done and Dermott comes back before the playoffs, who do they plug in?

Marincin, Holl, Ozighanov all seem to have played themselves out of contention.

Rosen?  Borgman?  I can't see Liljegren much less Sandin being brought in, though I suppose it's possible.

Can?t wait to hear Babcock after this one.

We weren?t ready.
They competed harder than us.
Wanted it more than us.
Blah blah blah.

Last place team Galley says gave away all their goal scores yet put up 6 on us.
What does that tell you regardless if Gards and Dermott are out?

Nothing to disagree with here.

McElhinney got 6 months older.  :)

It must be nice to play against the Leafs when you know there is almost zero chance you are going to get hit, no need to rush a play as a poke check is what is coming.

Apparently he is like wine.

I used to hate watching Kessel and JVR (among others) wave their sticks as opponents skated right past them. Here we are at
the same place again. When the pucks aren't flying in the net this can be a really easy team to play against.

How many times do opposing players stand right on the edge of the crease and wack at pucks as Leafs stand there. No push
back and no physicality. Put a guy on his ass.

Gonna be a quick first round exit if they don't get playing right. Not really sure though if this crew has it in them.

I want Babs fired this offseason. Too many games his guys are "not on time". Unprepared. Outworked. Uninterested. Disengaged. The entire coaching staff needs revamped.

One thing I?ve thought about recently is Tampa players saying the practice for a long time on practice days, they do every drill until all their transition plays are perfect and everyone gets it right.

All we?ve heard from Babcock is they have short high intensity practices, perhaps it?s time to slow it down and focus on attention to detail.
