Leafs @ Sharks - Jan. 9th, 7:00pm - CBC TSN 1050

I don't really want to see this goal called back as offside, but why are you allowed to skate into the zone backwards.  If the puck isn't in the offensive zone while your skates are in the zone, that's offisde.  If you are in the offensive zone and stickhandle the puck out of the zone, it's offside.

The point of the offside rule is that the player with the puck has to be the first in the zone. Skating in backwards doesn't change that and you gain no appreciable advantage skating in backwards.

I don't think the Leafs have been lose-by-7 bad tonight, but, at the same point, at no point did it really feel like they were mounting much of a threat offensively.

Of all the players crapping the bed, Hunwick is leading the way in excrement volume.

Proposal.  We change the MoM vote tonight to a Goat of the Night vote and give the winner a -2 score and the HM a -1.

Bernier going to go the route of another French Canadian goalie who was left in to get lit up?

Something tells me the trade market for Bernier and his .896 SV% won't be the same as Roy's.  :P

I can still feel cleanly voting for Froese.  The PK has been the one bright spot.  The HM thing is going to be tough.  WHERE IS MIKE BROWN WHEN WE NEED TO VOTE FOR HIM?

Oh wait ... he's in the building isn't he?

However there hasn't been any discussion about him being selected to the all star game (probably because even with his improvement it's virtually impossible to consider this).

There were only 3 spots on defense for the entire division. Subban and Karlsson were locks and with Hedman, Chara, Ekblad and others it really isn't a reflection on Phaneuf that he didn't make it.

That's certainly a valid point that you make.

I was referring (I think in retrospect  :) )  that it was inconceivable that he would be selected even as a token Leafs pick to the game.

His skating still isn't good enough compared with the fast forwards (and defence men looking at the first goal scored tonight).
