Leafs sign Kadri and Rielly to 6-year contacts

I didn't expect only 4.5 for Kadri, wow for 6 years too.  That deal can turn out to be sweet like JVRs looks in a few seasons if Kadri keeps progressing.

That's much better than what I thought! I thought for sure Rielly would be $6M long term and Kadri would be at $5-5.5m.

Guys, Steve Simmons doesn't seem impressed:

Question re Kadri's six year contract: if the Leafs get lucky on Auston Matthews and have a shot at Steven Stamkos, where does Kadri's fit?

Yes, what on earth would we do with all those quality players?

My goodness those are extremely cap friendly deals.  Both Kadri and Rielly have the potential to far exceed those price points.

I love how Lou goes about his business.  No fooling around.

I wonder if this hints that Toronto is a destination people want to go to for a little less as an opportunity to be involved with a good organisation and great coach with a lot of potential?

Might be more attractive to UFAs also

I'm fine with Dubas becoming our GM in 2-3 years, but I want Lou negotiating contracts until the day he dies.

That 3rd round pick for Lou (as well as the one for Babcock) has already been paid for, and then some.

I really don't know how the Kadri deal was done.  He was already making $4.2M and he agreed to only a 300k raise for 6 seasons?  Looking at his numbers and what other players in the same point range are making it's a fair deal, but since when have fair deals ever been the norm in Toronto?  They overpaid on Rielly based on what he's done so far, but that's betting on his future development and hoping he outplays the contract so I'm fine with it.

I'm happy about this news.  I have to think that the security of 6 year terms was a factor in getting the reasonable AAVs.

How do we think that Kadri staying is going to affect the roster moves this summer?

He's a loser.  He's always been a loser.  I've talked to many people.  Nobody likes him.

If they get Matthews, nothing will happen with Kadri, but Bozak's days would probably be numbered.  Matthews/Nylander/Kadri as centers is pretty good.

And Nylander and Kadri can play wing just fine, if required.
