Leafs @ Wings - Mar. 18th, 7:30pm - SN, SN 590

Well, tonight wraps up the five game trip, and hopefully they do it with a win. Before the trip started, people might have been satisfied with a 2-3 record given the level of competition, but I wonder if that feeling will change after a 2-1 start in California....

Just win Leafs. GLG

I hope Orr plays.  I want to see him cross 100 consecutive games without a point.

62 consecutive regular season games without a point.  69 games overall including the postseason.
78 consecutive regular season games without a goal.  85 games overall including the postseason.  Orr has 2 points in that 78 game stretch.

Roster spot = baffling.

Leafs win and leave Detroit in their playoff race dust.

I obviously haven't been paying particularly close attention to it because I was quite surprised to see Reimer's GAA well over 3.

Despite a .913 Save %. Yea, that's pretty amazing.

What the hell are they looking at?

And why did they choose to use this picture??  Serious jokes here.

According to Hendricks, Holland will be a healthy scratch again tonight, so, this:

Hope_Smoke: Dave Nonis at the trade deadline "we need guys from the Marlies to step up"
Carlyle subsequently scratches Holland & plays Ashton 2:29

I wonder if there's some tension between the two. Clearly, they're not on the same page in terms of the message they're putting out there for the public.

That's what happens when you face an average of ~37.2 shots per 60 minutes.

Is there a listing of this for all goalies? I looked real quick but couldn't find anything like it. I assume Reimer is well above any other goalie with a fair amount of games under his belt. I know his number is slightly above Bernier's.

That is insane. That's gotta be as bad as some expansion teams.

A Wings injury update:

Defenceman Brendan Smith will actually play left wing tonight because Abdelkader is out. Smith played as a forward until he was 16 and last up front on a line with Jon Tavares and Sam Gagner back in the day.

Bertuzzi will be a game-time decision. If he can't go rookie Landon Ferraro will make his NHL debut. Jordin Tootoo will be a healthy scratch regardless.

There probably is somewhere. I just figured out Reimer's myself.

Well, the Leafs are currently on pace to have the 5th or 6th worst shots against per game in the last 25 seasons . . . so, yeah, it's as bad as or worse than most expansion teams.

Accept these metrics don't appear to be hurting the team in the win column. It's kind of like saying Neil Armstrong had an ugly broken toe inside his space boot when he walked on the moon. I mean, he was still able to take that one small step.

If you accept that fighting and clawing for a playoff spot is as good as this team's talent level is with elite goaltending.

Don't you?

Actually it's nothing like that. That's the worst analogy since hotsauce.

I'm just going to leave it out there that you just compared one of mankind's greatest scientific achievements with the Maple Leafs currently sitting 12th in the NHL standings.
