Isn't this the kind of game where Matt Martin is supposed to do... something?

Careful it seems like we need 10 or 20 or 80 games to make sure before we can talk about how some or all of the vet acquisitions might be suspect.

I'm getting a vibe that people don't want the honeymoon for Shanahan et al to end, and admitting that they might have another bomb of a goalie deal and a Clarkson x0.5 on their hands would be just that.

I'm jokingly going with Andersen being a stealth tank commander at this point.

It's not exactly controversial to say that you shouldn't judge Andersen based on a sample of something like 3% of his career NHL games where his sv% is close to 40 points below his average over that career.

Has anyone tracked how or corrected for goalies who build their career SV% in one context (say, perennial playoff teams) do when they move to other contexts? Given the discussion on these game threads, think we're all agreed that Sv% isn't entirely owned by the goalie.

I hated the Martin and Polak deals from the get go.

Me too, (a bit less so Polak), but I didn't and don't think they were consequential enough players to be considered scapegoats.

Right you are.  Whether or not you think Polak (or any one d-man) is or isn't responsible for a particular goal, there is plenty of defensive blame to go around.  I'm not sure any player is exempt from criticism at this point.

The D is letting Andersen out dry there.

On the Hedman goal,  they let Stamkos free in front of the crease. Andersen made the save of the game on Hedman... and on the next game they let the big 77 free again...

A puck to the head that knocks your two front teeth clean out your head doesn't warrant a trip to the quiet room?

That's a valid point, but OTOH we got to shake our heads in wonder at his absurd machismo for pretending like it's just chiclets.

I don't and didn't like the Andersen deal when it was announced, that doesn't really impact my views on his play or the craziness of jumping to conclusions after a few games.

I was actually in favour of strengthening the goalie position but even though it's early Andersen just looks bad to me.  I guess I've heard he looks way different than he did in Anaheim, is there #1 pressure or some sort of other mental fog?  Unless his game changes drastically somehow I don't see a potential for huge improvement.

A few nights ago they were talking about how he knows he needs to work on his crappy glove, kind of sounds like a thing a 'proven' 27 year-old goalie would have mostly figured out by now...  Stuff like that makes me think Anaheim sheltered him and pulled one over on us.

They played him in the playoffs three straight years. You can't shelter a guy in the playoffs.

On the bright side, Nylander's still looked really good tonight. Even aside from the goal.

Nylander has been their best player this year from game one on he has played pretty consistently.
