What's the over/under on beards for opening night?

Free agents aside, I'd be surprised to see even one beard with this group, Kadri's 5 o'clock shadow notwithstanding.

Luscious flow, on the other hand...

Not one peep about any of these comments.  But then I'm suddenly a horrible person and told to go **** myself when I say the same thing.  Yeah sure, I'm the problem right?  Give your head a shake.

Or yours just got caught, because it was posted during a slower time of the year and not a game day thread, where lots of things get missed. People should have been called out on most of those, you're absolutely right, but timing and context are why they were missed, not your victim complex.

Of course, the fact that you've angered a lot of people with your consistent complaining about the atmosphere here certainly hasn't helped you go unnoticed.

A quick search just showed that the word "senile" has been used at least 20 times lately.  Are you telling me that it went unnoticed 20 times and then suddenly, by co-incidence, I was called out for it?  What a load of BS.

And how many of those were quoting your post, responding to it, or you quoting older posts? I'm confident that includes the vast majority of them.

EDIT: Just did a search of my own, and you're very much stretching the definition of lately. The vast majority of those posts are from 2015 or earlier.

I'll also add that some of the posts there are referring to what other people have said.  LK's first post seems to be quoting something Trump said (as, I remember there was a time before his physical were experts were debating whether he was exhibiting signs of dementia). Nik's post looks like someone else said it, and he was answering that.

Some of them are bad - like Bender's from 2011, but 2011 was a different time, and people generally didn't think about the words they use like they do now.  I'm sure if you went back to my old posts from when I joined this board and was just a kid, basically, there'd be some reprehensible stuff too.

As far as I can tell the word's been used in 21 threads(which would theoretically cover any cases of multiple uses in one thread) in the entire time since the board's archives got wiped out. Or, rather, 21 times in 7 or so years. So "recently" is a stretch.

Also I'd point out that the one of mine that's quoted I'm neither making light of anything nor calling anyone senile. I'm saying that I don't think that Cliff Fletcher signed Jeff Finger because of implied senility.

Personally, I think WIGWAL's immediate response to sickbeast was way more overblown and over the line and I'm a little surprised that he is going completely unscathed here. Unfortunately, sickbeast, doubling down on your comments and complaining about every poster since the Diefenbaker administration isn't exactly helping your cause. You called a poster with under 200 posts a clique-member and then lamented that high post count members were driving away low post count members like you. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I'm not perfect, and I was certainly less than perfect 5 years ago. I'm confident in saying I've grown. I shouldn't have said it then - that was wrong of me.

And sideburns. There are going to be lots of sideburns. Don Mattingly style.

Who's got the right looks to pull it off though?

I think Kasperi Kapanen could do an Elvis pompadour with some crisp 'chops.

I think context is important too. One person is saying that since this guy is this old, we have a legitimate worry that he will soon be senile. The other poster is using senility in reference to an absolutely headscratching move by a similarly old person. And the Don Cherry comments reference senility because he, as well, is that old (and older) and constantly says crazy things that have no basis in fact.

I think the first comment is a little silly, but I don't see it as mean spirited or offensive. The others aren't really offensive either. I'm not sure why this got so out of hand but hopefully cooler heads prevail here.

Everyone says crap they should not at some point in their lives. I am just trying to defuse things. I made a comment once teaching in front of several dozen university students that I can laugh at now but man was it inappropriate (not sexual).

Maybe, but I don't know what WIGWAL has been going through. Maybe he's dealing with an older relative going through something like that. Regardless of what some may think there is a level of the benefit of the doubt that gets earned with having been a long time member of a community and generally comporting yourself well during that time.

I think what you're seeing in this thread is a lot of stuff coming to a head. Galatians 6:7, for all you bible fans. I think what a lot of people resent is the way the poster in question is constantly accusing other posters of acting in bad faith. It's never genuine disagreements or reactions but always masking some secret agenda(the "clique", "trolling", "blindly disagreeing") and really almost no level of self-reflection as to why people are reacting the way they are.

You keep telling us that there are all these others who are upset. Yet, you are the only one complaining.

If you have a look, someone created a thread about this issue not long ago.  Something about "casual fans".  Multiple people chimed in there and I received several PMs.

Who knows how many people have left the forum over this over the years also.  The simple fact that there are any of us left tells you something.

sickbeast said:

I have no doubt that on a board with a fair number of posters there are going to be people who think all sorts of things on a given issue. I'm sure there are some people who agree with you about this but as you can clearly see, there are a lot of people who don't. And, no, not because of membership in the TMLfans Skull and Bones Society. People genuinely disagree with you and a lot of them are long time and well-respected members of the board. You're doing yourself no favours by railing against them as just trolls and freemasons.

That thread was not about "this issue". That thread was started by someone who thought that some posters worked with too many analytics and that put off people who wanted to discuss the game without a lot of math.

That is emphatically not the same as "Everyone who disagrees with me is wrong and trolling".
